In Teen Titans Academy # 1, the full name of DC’s new superhero school is revealed, honoring a fallen member of the team.

As part of DC’s Infinite Frontier relaunch, the superheroes of the DC Universe are starting over with new beginnings and new directions. The Titans are no exception to that rule, and the older Titans have now opened the Teen Titans Academy, a school that will teach and train a new generation of teenage superheroes to eventually become the new recruits for the team. In Infinite border # 0, the Academy opened its doors and we saw her welcome her first students.

And in Teen Titans Academy # 1, new students to the school meet their teachers and settle down properly within their homes. As students acclimate to this new school, the real name of the Teen Titans Academy is revealed, honoring a fallen member of the team: Roy Harper.

In the first pages of Teen Titans Academy # 1, Nightwing and his teammates officially welcome the school’s first students into an auditorium. From the stage, Dick Grayson delivers a speech, and it is at this point that he reveals the full name of the academy: Roy Harper Titans Academy. Starfire then addresses the students, telling them what this school stands for and that their mission is to “save lives and defend something bigger than us.” And as Nightwing and Starfire deliver their speeches, the statue of Roy Harper stands proudly beside them, showing that the school represents these ideals in honor of Roy.

Roy Harper, or Arsenal / Red Arrow, was a member of the Teen Titans for a long time. He was one of the founders and one of the pillars of the team, and was a fundamental member of the Titans family. Unfortunately, Roy tragically died in the 2018-2019 series of events, Heroes in crisis. In the book, an emotionally distraught Wally West temporarily lost control of his powers, and the resulting thunderbolt wiped out several heroes in his vicinity, including Roy.

Roy’s death was a tragic loss for the Titans and the other heroes of the DC Universe. To who Teen Titans Academy # 1, the ramifications of his death continue to be felt, two years later. By naming their new school after him, the Titans show their respect for Roy and allow his memory to shape the future of the team.

However, the situation surrounding Roy recently became much more complicated. In fact, while Roy was killed in Heroes in crisis, Infinite border # 0 revealed the character came back to life after the reality-altering events of Dark Nights: Death Metal, where an undead Roy made his peace with Wally in a multiversal war. The cosmic event rebooted the entire DC Universe, and it appears that Roy was resurrected as a result. But while Roy may be back, he still hasn’t told his friends on the Titans.

Thus, Roy is back, but the Titans have no idea. Regardless of what you do next, you will almost certainly meet up with your teammates eventually. When you do, you will find the Teen Titans Academy named after you, and you may even become the newest teacher in the school.
