Many DC fans felt it was odd that Zack Snyder missed one of the most talked about moments from the League of Justice Trailer for HBO Max after the release of the finished movie. The filmmaker actually let Jared Leto’s Joker deliver the iconic ‘We live in a society …’ meme quote in a speech to Ben Affleck’s The Batman. The footage was in the first official trailer of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. But it didn’t make it to the finalized Snyder Cut. Zack Snyder has now fully restored that moment with an extended deleted scene from League of Justice with the epic confrontation of Batman and Joker.

Zack Snyder shared the clip ‘We Live in a Society’ on Twitter for all to see. This is an alternate version of what was eventually used in League of Justice when it premiered a few weeks ago on HBO Max. This resurfaced footage gives the scene in question more context and allows us another kiss from Jared Leto’s Joker, who may never appear in the DCEU again after this.
Batman’s dialogue matches what we see in the movie as he responds to Robin’s taunts of Joker, revealing that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn died in his arms. He growls, “You know that’s funny. You talk about people who died in my arms. Because when I held Harley Quinn, and she was bleeding and dying, she begged me, with her last breath, that when I killed you, and there is no mistake, I’m going to kill you, which I do slowly. I’m going to keep that promise. “
Batman takes the Joker card out of his hand, “Maybe this is useful?” Joker is not buying Batman’s emotional monologue. And this is where we finally get to hear Jared Leto utter those iconic words.
“Honor? Really Bruce? Honor? We live in a society … where honor is a distant memory. By the way … Who do you think screamed loudest? The girl? Or the boy?”
Joker then laughs in Bruce Wayne’s face when Batman turns to walk away, thinking about the fate of several Robins killed by Joker. Final scene. It’s basically what we got in the finished cut, with a flourish of ‘We live in a society’. This final prologue shows Batman, Mera, Joker, Deathstroke, and Flash attempting to take on Dark Superman and Darkseid in the reality of Knightmare, which sets up a Justice league 2 We will never make it. Probably. But you can never be too sure.
‘We Live in a Society’ is an iconic Joker meme that dates back years on the internet. What started out as absurd humor has now turned into a parody or a serious mantra, depending on which side of the #ReleasetheSnyderCut movement you stick with. Up to this point, here in this deleted scene, Joker, as a character, had never said any variation of the line, which is why it became such a big deal when Jared Leto delivered the phrase in the main part. Snyder cut trailer that was released months ago.
Zack Snyder shared the extended and deleted scene from ‘We Live in a Society’ to celebrate the release of his black and white edition of Justice League: Justice is Gray which began airing on HBO Max earlier this week.
