There is a full 4K port of TimeSplitters 2 waiting for players within Homefront: The Revolution, but it was almost lost forever due to skepticism.

Homefront: The Revolution houses a full 4K port of TimeSplitters 2, but players almost lose access to it forever. Matt Phillips, a former developer at Dambuster Studios, shared on Twitter that one of his greatest triumphs was successfully moving the video game from 2002 to 2016. Homefront: The Revolution. Later, he shared that access to the secret had been lost in time.

In an Easter-themed tweet, game designer Jan Willem Nijman asked the developers to share your favorite easter eggs of titles in which they have worked. Along with others in the industry sharing their stories, Phillips revealed his work wearing Time dividers 2 within Homefront: The Revolution. Posting initially to the thread, Phillips tweeted: “My proudest moment. Fully playable native 4K port of TimeSplitters 2 hidden in this arcade machine in Homefront: The Revolution. “In his response, an in-game image of an arcade cabinet is shown. On top of the machine, a worn and worn tag has enough detail to distinguish the title. TimeSplitters 2. Just below the screen are the words, TIME TO SPLIT!

Going into more detail, Phillips responded to his post, adding that he had even gone as far as to theoretically create a method for players to experience the port together. Phillips said: “It’s probably about time this little tidbit came out: I carried the network stack to mount on HF: TRcooperative mode. Yes, and that’s a big yes, if someone could hack into two or more arcades on one of the cooperative maps, it will launch into the multi-layer menu. ”An exciting Easter egg suddenly got even more interesting.

Phillips even went so far as to ask a friend to “leak” the code necessary to unlock the content, but they were met with skepticism. He added that he no longer had any record of the code, tweeting “The unlock code has been lost in time, I no longer have the notebook with it. I once gave it to a friend to leak on a Discord channel and they called him a liar and banned his account ahahah.” But that’s not the end of the story.

Players were amazed at the work that went into this Easter egg and saddened to think that they would never get a chance to experience it. Enter Spencer Perreault, Xbox Principal Software Engineer and eponymous Emulation Ninja. On Thursday, Perreault was able to determine the codes needed to access the TimeSplitters 2 port and punctually replied to Philips’ tweet.

Fans of the TimeSplitters series and Homefront: The Revolution players now have the opportunity to try one of the classics of a past generation. Although the port has been reported to be somewhat unstable on different platforms, it is impressive that it even exists. If anything, it has rekindled interest in two series of recoil shooters that have earned themselves a return to the limelight.
