Schitt’s Creek may be a pleasant sitcom, but Moira, Johnny, David, and Alexis experience a lot of excitement and heartbreak in the titular city.

Canadian comedy Schitt’s cove It seemed to come out of nowhere to become one of the best feel-good shows in recent memory. Filled with personable characters and hilarious comedy, it really was the kind of thing fans could see to cheer them up. However, that is not to say that the show is without sad moments.

While the show always brought the laughs, some episodes of Schitt’s cove they were surprisingly emotional. Whether it’s with relationships or characters struggling with things, these moments really pulled on the heartstrings and brought some tears to the eyes of fans.

10 Town For Sale (Season 1, Episode 13)

As soon as the Rose family are forced to live in the titular rural town, they immediately start looking for a way out. Throughout the first season, Johnny Rose seeks to sell the town and finally seems to have found a buyer, much to the delight of his family.

David immediately begins making plans to move to New York City, but it soon becomes clear that all those friends David had when he was rich have abandoned him. It’s a fascinating insight into how lonely David is.

9 Grad Night (Season 3, Episode 13)

Although she initially seems as spoiled as the rest of her family, Alexis Rose quickly proves that she is far more ambitious and determined when she sets her mind on something. He even decides to go back to high school to get his diploma.

When it comes time to graduate, Alexis dismisses it as a simple matter and insists that her family not attend. But when the time comes, it is clear that she wishes her loved ones were there to share the moment with her. But not only does Ted surprise her by attending, but Moira brings her acapella group to serenade the graduates, which means a lot to Alexis.

8 Singles Week (Season 4, Episode 12)

Although they eventually became one of the most charming couples on the show, the romance between Alexis and Ted was a bit rough at first. After rejecting Ted’s marriage proposal, she moved into a new relationship only for Alexis to realize that she loved him.

While organizing a singles week in town, Alexis finally decides to tell Ted how she feels about him to vent. As someone who is often so confident, this moment of vulnerability in Alexis is very difficult to see and shows how heartbroken she is to have lost him.

7 The Hospies (Season 5, Episode 8)

Stevie Budd is known for her aloof personality, which makes it seem like she doesn’t care, but as the show progresses, she proves to be a lot more complex than she lets on. After finding a spark with a motel critic named Emir, Stevie seems to have found a relationship that really makes her happy.

When at a motel awards show, Stevie tries to make plans with Emir only to find that he wants to keep things casual. Given how introverted Stevie is, it’s clear how painful it is for her to expose herself like this only to have her heart broken.

6 Meet the Parents (Season 5, Episode 11)

Another wonderful relationship on the show is between David and Patrick. While the relationship helps David find real love for the first time, it also gives Patrick the opportunity to be true to himself and date a man for the first time in his life.

When it comes time to meet Patrick’s parents, Johnny accidentally takes Patrick out of them because they didn’t know he was gay. It’s an awkward moment but it leads to a very sweet scene where Patrick finally decides to tell his parents the truth and they tell him how happy they are to have found love.

5 Life Is A Cabaret (Season 5, Episode 14)

Season 5 of the show really explores Stevie’s arc in an excellent way, as it finds itself at a crossroads. Finally, Moira encourages her to join the local musical. Cabaret, pushing his way out of his comfort zone.

In the episode “Life is a Cabaret”, Stevie prepares for the show’s opening night and also receives news that David and Patrick are engaged. While she initially seems concerned about the news, she later reveals that Patrick asked for her blessing. He then goes on to deliver a spectacular performance that shows just how far he has come with his own confidence.

4 Moira Rosé (Season 6, Episode 7)

Johnny has acknowledged that he hadn’t always been the best parent in the past, but after moving to Schitt’s Creek, he and Moira try to be better at their parenting roles. So when David and Patrick announce their engagement, Johnny tries to step up and give Patrick “the talk.”

Of course, Johnny is a bit awkward in this situation and doesn’t quite know how to broach the subject. Patrick seems to see where Johnny wants to go and tells him how much David means to him and how he will always treat him well. Although this was not the conversation Johnny had in mind, it makes him cry.

3 The Presidential Suite (Season 6, Episode 8)

After Alexis and Ted get back together, they seem like the perfect couple who will be together forever. But when Ted lands his dream job, they are forced into a long-distance relationship.

While Alexis misses Ted very much, her own career begins to take off, making it more difficult to stay with Ted as planned. Finally, Ted comes home to surprise Alexis and they both face the harsh truth. Although they love each other, they find that their lives are taking them in opposite directions. The scene where they acknowledge how they have become better people is a devastating but loving breakup.

When Johnny lands an investment for his motel franchise, the Rose family is finally able to leave Schitt’s Creek. David is excited by the news at first, but then it becomes clear that Patrick was hoping to start his own life in this city together.

David and Stevie visit the house Patrick had planned to buy for David and discuss the future. When Stevie tells David that all of his friends in New York have declined the invitation to his wedding, David admits that he just wanted to show them that it wasn’t a joke.

1 Happy ending (season 6, episode 14)

Given how beloved the show is, it makes sense that the most emotional episode would be the one where fans had to say goodbye to all of these characters. In addition to the excitement, the episode featured David and Patrick getting married, as well as Johnny and Moira leaving town.

While there were plenty of happy tears throughout the episode (and a few laughs), the final scene when everyone breaks up is enough to make any fan cry.
