Despite growing fan interest, Schitt’s Creek ended its run after season 6. Was the Canadian comedy canceled or did other factors come into play?

Debuting in January 2015, Schitt’s cove followed the unlucky Rose family, consisting of her husband Johnny (Eugene Levy), his wife Moira (O’Hara), and their two grown children, David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Murphy). Upon moving to the small town of Schitt’s Creek, the family had no choice but to live in the local motel run by Stevie Budd (Emily Hampshire). Despite initially wishing for nothing more than to get out of the city and return to his lavish lavish life, the Rose family eventually became more involved in their new community. For season 6, David decided to make the city his permanent home with his new husband Patrick (Noah Reid) while his parents moved to California and Alexis found a career opportunity in New York.

Unlike most sitcoms, which tend to experience declining ratings as the years go by, Schitt’s cove reaped a hit on fans in later seasons. This was due to several factors, in particular Schitt’s coveairs on Netflix after its third season. Availability across the US gave the title broader exposure, resulting in higher viewership numbers when the new seasons debuted on Pop TV. In fact, Schitt’s cove Season 6 had record viewership ratings as well as stellar critical reception. While it is not out of the question that Schitt’s cove returns someday in this era of reboots and revivals, season 6, for now, serves as the finale to the beloved series. Fortunately, the cast and crew did not say their goodbyes without significant recognition. Schitt’s cove it eventually earned numerous award nominations for the sixth and final season, being nominated for 15 Emmy Awards. It then emerged as the first comedy series to sweep all four acting categories, plus five other big wins at the ceremony. The Rose family’s journey may be over (for now), but they will continue to live through broadcasting and syndication.
