F9 director Justin Lin explains that he had more “real estate” to work with, as he knew that Fast and Furious 10 and 11 had already been confirmed.
Later Fast and Furious 10 and 11 They were green light, director Justin Lin felt he could shift his approach to the story to F9. The Fast and Furious The franchise has always thrived by driving expectations throughout its career, especially once Lin began taking over as director after the second film. With Lin’s last three films confirmed as the final chapters of the series, he is sure to do his best.
After the average success of the first sequel, 2003 2 Fast 2 Furious, Justin Lin stepped in to direct the third installment with Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift in 2006. He made a name for himself with that movie and what followed afterwards, Fast and Furious (2009) and Fast and Furious 6 (2013), collaborating well with the cast and crew, especially star Vin Diesel. While talking to Collider, Lin said working on F9 felt like he could try different things now that he knew Fast and Furious 10 and 11 it had already been confirmed. In his previous films, he had worked hard to remember that. “a sequel is not a fact“and to make sure”service this chapter, “ But this time, he was able to think about the bigger picture. You could plot all three movies as part of a larger endgame, focus on bringing in more characters, and not worry about wrapping up every story in the first two movies.
“Usually when we started, part of our philosophy was that a sequel is not a fact, so let’s do what we can and really serve this chapter, and it worked really well. But I think to come back, and I think for the last ten For years, I’ve been talking to Vin about the end of the saga. It was something we discussed, and I have to say, coming back, this is the first time I’ve allowed myself to say, ‘Okay, well let’s talk about it like the chapter end. ‘And we knew that real estate would expand beyond a movie. So it’s been very liberating to work and we really allowed ourselves to think that way. “
He continued talking about the large number of “real estate“Now they have three films, although he noted that they have a lot of material to show,” he said.this movie [F9] It could have been six hours if we wanted to.“A lot of that material is generated from the conversations Lin has with the actors, as he explained that he spends a lot of time with each of them going over their characters, regretting that.”Much of what we talk we never see on screen.“He spoke on the great subject of F9 What “blood family for the first time “ Which makes sense considering that the franchise has always been about family.
Among all the characters they already have, new characters like John Cena’s Jakob Toretto, plus returning characters whose survival needs to be explained, Lin has a lot of ground to cover in three films. Fortunately for everyone involved, the man has a great passion for Fast and Furious franchise. It’s hard to say whether or not that passion can be translated into an ending that will satisfy die-hard fans already raving about the conclusion. However, the franchise that survives this long and continues to create successful sequels loved by fans proves that there is something special about these films. Hopefully, that magic can continue to an ending befitting the franchise. F9 marks the beginning of the end of the franchise, and Lin aims to come out with a bang.
