Legendary game rivals Scorpion and Sub-Zero show off their powers and go head-to-head in a short, action-packed clip from the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie.

The latest film adaptation of the popular video game franchise of the same name shows a young MMA fighter, Cole Young, who becomes embroiled in interdimensional conflict after discovering his true heritage. Young becomes acquainted with video game legends like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, and Liu Kang as he fights to defend Earthrealm from Outworld.
Anyone familiar with the video game series will know that Mortal Kombat it is most famous for its gratuitous violence. The fighters engage in one-on-one martial arts matches spilling a lot of blood. Bloody finishing moves called fatalities cause characters to stab, tear, and sometimes cannibalize their opponents. It just wouldn’t be Mortal Kombat without the carnage. Lewis Tan, who plays Cole in the film, says that gore will be present in this adaptation, but that it will be in good taste.
A clip shared on YouTube by Bloody disgusting shows Scorpion and Sub-Zero facing off in our first combat test. The 27-second video sees the pair fight in a frozen arena as seen in the promotional material above. Sub-Zero creates an ice blade and holds it until Scorpion appears to defeat him with his iconic kunai on a chain. Before Scorpion can finish off Sub-Zero, he escapes creating an ice clone of himself. Although it is less than 30 seconds long, the clip leaves a good impression of what the action will look like in Mortal Kombat. His iconic abilities and special powers have been seamlessly integrated into his fighting styles. Without providing too much context for the story, the short sequence highlights the set design and camera work that complements its fluid combat. Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero demonstrate impressive martial arts skills. All that is missing is free blood.
Any good sign is a blessing, as video game adaptations are famous randomly, and Mortal Kombat adaptations have shown both ends of the spectrum. The former is regarded as one of the best video game movies of all time, while its sequel was widely criticized and ended hopes for a third entry.
