Gary King joined the new cast of Below deck: sailing yacht for the second season in early March. He was not the only new member of the team to join the show, as the only cast member to return from the first season was Captain Glenn Shephard. Gary was appointed the ship’s first mate and works alongside sailors Sydney Zaruba and Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux. Although Gary can expect nothing but perfection from his outfits, he always knows when it’s time to loosen up and have a little fun.
Arriving at Parsifal III in Croatia in the premiere episode was nothing new for Gary. He has worked in the boating industry for over 12 years as a first officer and captain on smaller vessels. Gary tries his best not to get distracted at work, but team drama can sometimes get the best of him, especially now that he’s in the middle of a love triangle with Sydney and Alli Dore.

According to Titbit realityGary was born and raised in South Africa, but moved to New Zealand at an unknown time. At age 18, the first mate traveled to Europe on a sabbatical and ended up taking his first job on a yacht. He started out in the boating industry as a way to make easy money but ended up enjoying the job and has been traveling the world ever since. Some of the places Gary has traveled for work include Spain, Greece, Cuba, Italy, New Zealand, and Norway. Through his experience Gary has been able to captain smaller ships and run the deck on several busy superyachts. His 12 years of experience on the outside of a ship has been evident in the way he leads his deck team on the show.
On the show, Gary has shown how exceptional he is at his job as First Officer. However, he tends to lack self-control, especially when it comes to hanging out with the crew. By the end of the second episode, Gary had already connected with one of the crew members: his sailor, Sydney. The pair work closely together throughout the day, so the rest of the crew definitely felt the tension between them. However, Gary was not really interested in Sydney and hoped he could develop a closer bond with the third stewardess, Alli. Now that he and Alli have cemented a romantic relationship, emotions are running high between Gary, Alli and Sydney. Hopefully her mishap doesn’t jeopardize Gary’s job.
Gary has been in the boating industry for over a decade, so it is no wonder that he was successful during his time at Below deck: sailing yacht. He has been working on ships since he was a teenager, and it seems that he does not plan to leave the industry anytime soon. Plus, the drama he brings as a playboy makes him even more appealing to Bravo. As for whether or not it will make it to season three, only time will tell.
Below deck: sailing yacht airs Mondays at 9 pm ET on Bravo.
