The time-traveling music video even includes a Pichu.

katy-perry electric

Of the many ways The Pokémon Company has found to celebrate the franchise’s 25th birthday, an official single from Katy Perry it is undoubtedly one of the strangest. Perry’s new single “Electric,” featuring an official Pikachu video, is also a very catchy way to celebrate the Pokémon anniversary.

The highly motivational song uses the power of Pikachu as an excuse to say that people might try to bring you down, but “there’s no reason this life can’t be electric.” The video shows Perry and Pikachu going back in time and motivating a younger Perry, who also has a Pichu, to follow his dreams of becoming a musician. It’s a cute video that combines the catchy pop song with adorable Pokémon.

To be honest, if it weren’t for the special cameos by some of our favorite Pokémon, it would be hard to say that Perry’s song has anything to do with the franchise. However, it could be argued that it is better to have a great song that barely scratches the tradition of Pokémon, than a song that is potentially lost by trying to add too many elements of the franchise.
