The Pogues live up to their old tricks in the first stills of Outer Banks season 2, including John B, Sarah, JJ, and Kiara running for their lives.
Netflix has released the first images of External banks season 2 – with The Pogues (especially John B and Sarah) once again having to run for their lives. Created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, the action-mystery series debuted on April 15, 2020. Despite little fanfare, the show continued on Strange things‘Steps to become a surprise word of mouth success. Its mix of sun-drenched romances, sympathetic characters, and Goonies-style adventures proved a delight to many and made it one of the best Netflix shows of 2020. As a result, Netflix revamped External banks for a second season.

Portrayed by Chase Stokes, External banks followed John B as he tried to find $ 400 million in hidden gold and figure out how it related to his father’s disappearance. Set in a coastal North Carolina town, he eventually recruited a group of friends known as Pogues on the quest. They were composed of Kiara from Madison Bailey, Pope from Jonathan Daviss and JJ from Rudy Pankow. A trail of murder and mayhem soon followed, as the gang clashed with the wealthy elites known as the Kooks and forces eager to win them gold by any means necessary. Although it was eventually successful, the end of External banks Season 1 saw gold slip from their grasp amid painful betrayals. However, after surviving a near-death experience, John B and his crusader lover, Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), decided to trace the treasure to the Bahamas.
With filming officially over External banks season 2, Netflix released a selection of new images via TVLine. As if the group hadn’t done enough to flee and actively dodge danger, the pattern seemed ready to continue into the sophomore outing. Although John B and Sarah could be seen enjoying a brief respite on a beach, they were also glimpsed dramatically fleeing from something. Similarly, the popular couple of JJ and Kiara also seemed to be on the run. On a regular basis, JJ seemed to thrive on chaos while Kiara endured it with a more traditional and terrified reaction. Check out those images and several more below:
The image reaffirmed that The Pogues would remain separate, at least for the first few episodes. Even though the gold left town (with John B and Sarah chasing them), things looked just as dramatic on the Outer Banks. Kiara, JJ, and Pope appeared to be back in school, as well as providing long-term support and cover for their wayward friend. With Pope no doubt eager to get his previously sacrificed academic opportunities back on track, that will likely result in a strained complication for things. It also seemed that his family life would be explored more deeply, with him visiting his aging Me-Maw (Carol Sutton).
To make matters worse, the villain Ward Cameron (Charles Esten) and Rafe (Drew Starkey) were glimpsed on a funeral scene. Most likely this is the memorial to Sheriff Peterkin (Adina Porter), whose murder they committed themselves. The blatant level of hypocrisy shown in the service of hiding their dark secrets will no doubt only fuel fans’ hatred of the pair in the upcoming episodes. As such, many will already be waiting for some kind of justice to happen to them in External banks season 2.
Regarding those episodes, the show’s creators also offered the following: “Season 2 will test our team like never before. We’ve turned the dial up on everything fans loved about Season 1: more mystery, more romance, and higher stakes. It’s a full throttle, action-packed adventure, and these photos offer a glimpse into the next chapter for our Pogues. All we can say for now is buckle up, it’ll be a wild ride. “Based on the photos above, that almost certainly appears to be the case. As such, fans will no doubt be even more eager for External banks and his beloved characters to officially return.
An official release date for External banks Season 2 has yet to be announced, but is expected on Netflix sometime in the summer of 2021.
