Tropical-Rouge! Episode 13 of Precure sees the Tropical Club on the airwaves, and Laura unwittingly demonstrates some of the mermaid folklore of her world.

Tropical-Rouge! Safeguard has its own mythology when it comes to mermaids, as revealed in Episode 13. One particular piece of folklore that is often attributed to mermaids is that their songs can lure sailors to their doom, a claim that Laura is quick to do. to tear down as fiction, explaining that ships sink due to rocks, storms, and other natural phenomena.
But while Laura may be right in saying that there are no malicious intentions on behalf of the mermaid, her actions in Episode 13 and its title track prove that there could be more to the story than she realizes.

Tropical-Rouge! Safeguard Episode 13 wastes no time in presenting the main conflict through the school’s public address system, where the announcer uses rumors that a mermaid is being seen by the school to explain mermaid folklore. The song captures the ears of the Tropical Club when the girls quickly ask Laura about the announcer’s claims, and Manatsu even dares to ask, “Have you ever sunk a ship?” Minori further explains that, “The sweet voice of a mermaid would steal the hearts of sailors …” only for Laura to call the claims ridiculous. However, note that all mermaids love to sing, including herself.
Laura is eager to prove the innocence of her kind in the matter, and she is also not one to turn down the opportunity to practice her royal duties of seeking attention and gaining popularity. When Manatsu volunteers for the Tropical Club to help the broadcast committee with their daily lunchtime show, Laura quickly volunteers to not only act as the host but also to sing for the school. However, Sango and Asuka quickly take her down, as she would have to reveal herself to the other students to do so.
Turns out, Laura does have a chance to be the center of attention. When the main broadcast committee host succumbs to a stomachache induced by a 30-minute challenge, an unprepared Club Tropical is forced to complete it on the fly. Her broadcast draws attention, mainly because of how messy it is, and Laura can’t hold back anymore. She dons a homemade floor-length skirt, making great use of the strength she demonstrated in Episode 12 to hide her fishy nature by standing upright on her tail. Laura quickly becomes the main presenter, and when Yarane-da shows up, she ends the broadcast so the others can go fight.
True to her word, Laura ends with a song. While the lyrics are innocuous (it’s literally about friendship), it’s clear that her voice has quite a captivating effect on the entire building, as teachers and students stop to listen. While it doesn’t have the hypnotic effect of the legends, the resulting surge of requests for her to come back and sing again sheds new light on the mermaid myths from the beginning of the episode.
What if, instead of the hypnotic voice of a siren luring sailors into dangerous waters, the shipwrecks of these myths were accidents triggered by impulsive decisions? A mermaid swims to the surface to bask in the sun and sings as an expression of her joy: nearby sailors hear the song and try to maneuver closer, unaware that there are rocks below the surface. A great crash occurs when the ship crashes against the stones, scaring the mermaid who then flees to avoid being discovered by humans. And so the survivors tell what happened, painting the mermaid as the villain with her beautiful voice, when in reality her own bad decisions caused the disaster.
But regardless of how it happened, it is clear that Tropical-Rouge! SafeguardThe myths are correct on at least one matter: the song of a siren will capture the hearts of all who hear it, whether they want it or not.
