The pieces are falling into place for Sony to fully form. The sinister six in his cinematic universe of Wonderful movies, and the studio is apparently open to the idea. In 2018, Sony launched its new universe of movies based on Marvel Comics characters, starting with the hit movie Poison with Tom Hardy. The recent news that Aaron Taylor-Johnson landed the lead role in a Kraven the Hunter movie has led to speculation that the group of supervillains known as the Sinister six soon they could all be together in a live action movie.
In the lore of Marvel comics, The sinister six consists of six keys Spiderman villains: Kraven the hunter, Mysterio, Octopus doctor, Vulture, Sandman, Y Electro. Aside from Kraven, we’ve now seen live-action iterations of all these characters in different Spiderman movies, although it has gone through three different cinematic universes. We have yet to see all six of them together in the same movie for them to serve as a new threat to Spiderman with their combined forces, but there’s no question that many Marvel fans would love for this to happen.
In a new interview with Variety, Sony Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch shed some light on the studio’s future plans for film programming. He was asked about the possibility of bringing The sinister six at Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC), as some fans have been speculating as of the recent Kraven the hunter casting news. Panitch explains that the studio would rather not rush to put them together, but admits that the idea would be “very good.”
“It’s difficult, because I think these projects are the kind of things that we have to work on in the dark. They are not ready until they are ready. The requirements is a great example because we just don’t rush. We could have done that more than three years ago. It’s just that now the script is amazing [director] JC Chandor was the right choice, and we found the movie star because she was just kissing, and watching this other movie and realizing it might be the perfect cast. “
Still, when it comes to bringing The sinister six in Sony’s Marvel universe, Panitch added: “That would be great, wouldn’t it?”
This new cinematic universe, dubbed SPUMC, began with Poison in 2018. That movie served as a standalone story with no mention of Spiderman, and the universe will expand even more this year when Poison: Let there be slaughter premieres in September. Morbius with Jared Leto will continue in 2022 with Kraven the hunter with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in 2023. In his Variety interview, Panitch also said there were tentative plans to bring Spider-Man to SPUMC, with more to be revealed later. Spider-Man: No Way Home.
“Actually, there is a plan,” explained Panitch. “I think now maybe it’s becoming a little clearer for people where we are going and I think when No way home comes out, will be revealed even more. “
For now, fans can anticipate seeing Poison: Let there be slaughter opens in theaters on September 24, 2021. This news comes to us from Variety.
