The RTX 3080 Ti looks a lot like the regular 3080, has similar performance to the 3090, and is priced lower. It will go on sale on June 3.

Nvidia has unveiled its latest entry in the RTX 30 series, the RTX 3080 Ti. It’s the second most powerful GPU Nvidia has to offer in 2021, and while that means it’s packed with massive performance, it’s also at a hefty price tag.

The last few months have been somewhat difficult for Nvidia. In September 2020, the company introduced its RTX 30 line of graphics cards for the first time. They were all incredibly well received and as of June 2021 the lineup has continued to grow with more options to suit as many budgets as possible. While the cards themselves have been fantastic, trying to buy one has been a different story. Thanks to a combination of chip shortages, resellers, and crypto miners, buying an RTX 30 GPU has become virtually impossible for the average buyer. Cards are constantly out of stock, and when one is available, it often sells for hundreds more than its manufacturer’s suggested price. In short, it is far from an ideal situation.

Despite all those problems, Nvidia has not stopped producing new RTX 30 models for the past year. Following models like the RTX 3050, 3050 Ti, and 3060, Nvidia has now removed the wraps from the RTX 3080 Ti. It is the successor to the already powerful RTX 3080, offers performance very similar to the high-end RTX 3090 card, and is priced to match its capabilities. Nvidia says The RTX 3080 Ti will cost $ 1,119 when it goes on sale June 3. If it’s like any of the other RTX 30 cards that have come out thus far, don’t be surprised if the 3080 Ti becomes as elusive as its bigger siblings.

Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti Benchmark Test

Assuming someone can actually get their hands on the RTX 3080 Ti (and hopefully at the MSRP), they’ll be in store for a legitimately impressive piece of tech. It features an identical design to the regular RTX 3080, but wide spec caps across the board provide noticeably better performance. Taking a look at the 3080 Ti’s spec sheet, it comes equipped with 80 GPU clusters, 10,240 CUDA cores, 12GB of memory, and 912GB / s bandwidth. In comparison, the 3,080 clocks with 86 clusters, 8,704 CUDA cores, 10GB of memory, and 760GB / s of bandwidth. The RTX 3080 Ti is strikingly similar to the top-tier RTX 3090, with the main difference being the 3090’s expanded memory (24GB) and a larger physical design that allows for better cooling.

Aside from all that raw power, there are a couple of other specs to consider for the RTX 3080 Ti. It requires the same 350W of power as the 3090, which means gamers will need to make sure they have enough power to spare on their gaming rig before getting the new GPU. It also comes equipped with Nvidia’s new Lite Hash Rate technology, which prevents the card from achieving its maximum performance when mining cryptocurrencies. It’s an attempt by Nvidia to ensure that RTX 3080 Ti and other GPUs get into the hands of gamers rather than crypto miners, so fingers crossed have a positive impact on their availability.

Overall, the RTX 3080 Ti is shaping up to be a really impressive launch from Nvidia. It’s certainly not a card for gamers on a budget, but for those who can afford its steep asking price, the overwhelming power on display is inexcusable. For people who want an ultra-powerful GPU and don’t need the extra memory of the 3090, the RTX 3080 Ti seems like a fantastic alternative.
