The first official poster is here for Demonic, a new horror film directed by Neill Blomkamp and released by IFC Midnight on August 20.
Demonic was secretly filmed last year in British Columbia, Canada, during the COVID-19 pandemic. It tells the story of a woman who unleashes demons in connection with a decades-long dispute between mother and daughter.
Neill Blomkamp made his feature film directorial debut in 2009 with District 9, based on his 2005 short film I live in Joburg. The successful sci-fi allegory was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Blomkamp follow-up film, 2013’s Elysium, had more modest box office and critical success, and his third film My uncle in 2015 it was widely considered a disappointment.
Since My uncleBlomkamp has kept busy as a short film writer and director. I was attached to new Alien Y Robocop movies, although both projects were canceled. Demonic, which sees the author venturing out of his typical sci-fi genre into the realm of supernatural horror, will be his grand return to theaters.
Written and directed by Neill Blomkamp, Demonic stars Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, Michael J. Rogers, Nathalie Bolt, and Terry Chen. The film will open in theaters on August 20 and on VOD on August 27.
