Several new details regarding Paramount’s next installment have been revealed in the Transformers franchise, including that the film will be titled Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Now, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has offered a bit more insight into the ways in which newer Transformers outing will try to shake things up with the debut of several new heroes and villains.
“Part of the new news is that if you have seen other movies and been a fan of them, you will see villains that you have seen before. You will see Autobots that you have never seen before. You will see many elements that we have never done before. And one of the decisions. The fundamental thing we take on the road is, okay, have we done it before? Whether it’s an action scene or if that’s a character. “
Director Steven Caple Jr. added that the film will feature several familiar faces, and the filmmaker hopes to pay tribute to some of the previous characters in the beloved toy line, including the Predacons and the Terrorcons.
“Like you have the Autobots and the Decepticons and then I’d say my new outbreak for all of this would probably be the Terrorcons. I’ve done a Rocky movie, i’ve done Creed 2, and trying to pay homage to everything is something I’m great at. You know, it was like, we’re going to style it and bring what the fans want, but there’s always that, that thing that they didn’t expect. The Predacons in our movie are more reptilian in nature. We’ve seen some in the other Transformers movies, but we’ve never had a chance to focus on their logo, their tribe if you will, and we can see another side of them. It’s about building a backstory for these characters that is more than just ‘let’s take over the world.’
The Terrorcons will take on the role of the main villains of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and are traditionally made up of the brilliant but gluttonous Hun-Gurrr, the superiority-obsessed Rippersnapper, the loathsome Blot, the predatory Sinnertwin, and the overly violent Cutthroat. The Terrorcons have had a few different origin stories, but in one iteration they are previously deceased Cybertronians who have been raised from the dead. Terrorcons typically transform into nightmare monsters and combine to form a giant monster-machine known as the Abominus.
Meanwhile, the Predacons are a race of ancient Cybertronian beasts led by the Predaking. It has not yet been confirmed which Predacons will appear in the film, but Caple Jr. has many options to choose from. Some of the more popular Pedacons include Scorponok, Waspinator, Inferno, and Terrorsaur, and any of these beasts are sure to provide a real show, as well as new challenges for the likes of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
Starring Anthony Ramos (In the heights) and Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah), with a script written by Army of the Dead Joby Harold, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take place in 1994 and has been described as a spiritual successor to the 1980s set Bumblebee. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is scheduled to hit theaters on June 24, 2022. This comes to us courtesy of Collider.
