The cast of Lovecraft Country prepared for a season 2 revamp of the show, and filming schedules were cleared before the show’s cancellation.
HBO stars Lovecraft country they were so certain that a season 2 renewal of the series was coming that their schedules were clear for filming. The HBO show was based on Matt Ruff’s novel, Lovecraft country, and offered social commentary on racism with the sci-fi elements that any Lovecraft fan would expect. He followed Atticus Freeman when he set out on a journey across the United States in the 1950s, in search of his father with the help of his friend and uncle. Lovecraft country was endorsed by executive producers JJ Abrams and Jordan Peele, and was created by Misha Green, whose resume includes writing for Sons of Anarchy and creating the tv show Underground. The series starred Jonathan Majors, Jurnee Smollett, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jamie Chung, and Aunjanue Ellis. Season one of Lovecraft country It left many questions unanswered when it ended in October 2020, and since it was considered one of the best new shows of that year, a season 2 revamp felt like a sure thing for fans of the series and everyone creatively involved. .
Justin kroll, a senior film reporter for Deadline, shared a tweet about the cancellation of Lovecraft country where it says that the actors involved in the show, naming Smollett and Majors, were ready to return for season two, even going so far as to clear their schedules so they were free to film. He mentioned Majors’ “Jon Snow Style” returning in what would have been a spoiler for the second season, showing that the plans for the second season were far enough advanced that the actor knew his character would return. Green was working on story ideas Lovecraft country season two, which would have expanded beyond the Ruff book that season one used as source material. Interestingly, the series’ cancellation appears to have been a mutual decision between the creative team and HBO, which begs the question: why didn’t the actors know when Green and the writers apparently did? While actors are often caught off guard when their shows are canceled, it’s strange that those actors would go so far as to clarify their filming schedules when the series didn’t have an official renewal. It shows that the series was a success and that more than fans of the show expected a second season.
Fans of the show may want to see the series revived elsewhere, but since Green and his creative team mutually agreed to end the show with HBO, it seems like a definite ending to the series. While the actors may have cleared some time for the show, they each have projects lined up for their next endeavors. Majors will take on what will likely be a major role in the MCU as Kang the Conqueror in the next film. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in addition to landing a role opposite Michael B. Jordan in Creed iii. Smollett can be seen below at Spiderhead Escape alongside Chris Hemsworth, and Green is set to write and direct Tomb Raider 2 with Alicia Vikander. While the cancellation of Lovecraft country it is still fresh in the public mind, there are many opportunities to follow those involved as they move towards new projects.
