Scream 5 co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin has confirmed that work on the new slasher film has been completed, offering a photo of the film’s editing bay.

Shout 5 Co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin shares a new photo to confirm that the film has finished post-production. Now considered a cult classic in the slasher film genre, the original from 1996 He shouted, was directed by the late horror icon Wes Craven. Starring Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox, the film was applauded for its use of black humor and self-referential plays on horror movie clich├ęs.

The original He shouted proved to be a massive success, spawning a new horror franchise. However, there hasn’t been a new entry since 2011 Cry 4. That will change soon, as Shout 5 is slated for a 2022 release. Directed by Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the film began as principal photography last fall. Although it faced several obstacles during filming amid the coronavirus pandemic, the filmmakers kept the project on track and Shout 5 filming concluded in November 2020. Now, with several months to go until the film’s release, another update has been shared to commemorate the next step in the process.

In a world where several films have experienced significant production delays during last year’s pandemic shutdowns, it is commendable that the filmmakers managed to complete their film in record time. Earlier last month, Bettinelli-Olpin co-director Gillett also posted a behind-the-scenes look at Shout 5 going through his last orchestral score. Currently scheduled to be released in January 2022, viewers are now eagerly awaiting the first trailer and any potential clues as to how this new entry will connect to the original films. While original cast members Campbell, Arquette, and Cox are expected to return in some way, the film is also expected to relaunch the franchise with a new cast of characters.

Joining the original He shouted Veterans, this latest entry will also feature performances by Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera and Dylan Minnette. Of course, the only character audiences are dying to see is the iconic Ghostface assassin. Given that the previous films lean heavily towards the classic “whodunnit” tropes, audiences will no doubt go to great lengths to choose the identity of the killer when the new He shouted hits theaters early next year.
