Disney + episode four Loki featured the unexpected return of Lady Sif, the mighty Asgardian warrior. Sif has been absent from the MCU since Thor: The Dark World, but comic book fans know that there is much, much more to his story. Much of this is unexpected but plays on key aspects of the Loki Serie.
Although much of Lady Sif’s comics past has been altered for the MCU, she remains a vital piece of the Asgardian corner of the Marvel Universe. With Jamie Alexander back in the MCU role, the character may finally be able to explore some of his comic tales on screen.
10 Lady Loki is actually Loki in Sif’s body
The Loki The series has given fans a great Lady Loki in the form of Sylvie, but comic book fans know that First Lady Loki has a deep connection to Sif. In fact, Loki reincarnated his soul into Sif’s body, taking over and pushing his consciousness into the comatose mind of an old woman.
This shocking event occurs in Thor # 5 from 2008 and would have major ramifications for all the characters involved. Although the MCU Lady Loki is her own woman, she has her roots in Sif’s story, causing the character to return in Loki all the more interesting.
9 The resurrection of Lady Sif
Loki initially concealed Sif’s trapped consciousness from his brother Thor, leaving her stranded in Ms. Chambers’s body for a couple of years in the comics. On Thor # 602 in 2009 (the numbering of many Marvel series ranges from the inherited numbering that goes back to the beginning and the current volume) Thor manages to resurrect Sif in her original body.
However, the once proud warrior struggles with her newfound freedom, never having suffered a defeat as cruel and traumatic as the one she suffered against Loki.
8 I originally had golden hair
Lady Sif once had golden hair in the comics, and just like episode four of the Loki series, he lost it to Loki. In the comics, Sif loses all of her original hair due to a cruel trick on Loki’s part, while in the MCU, only part of it was cut off.
His hair turned dark in the comics when Loki replaced it with dwarf hair, a detail that was later revealed in Thor: son of Asgard # 8 from 2004. The entire episode takes a page from Norse mythology. In the classic stories that inspired all of Marvel Comics’ Asgardian tales, Loki cruelly cuts Sif’s hair.
7 She is Heimdall’s sister
A possible change from the comics to the MCU for Lady Sif involves her family. In the comics, she is actually the sister of Heimdall, Bi-Frost’s all-seeing vigilante. In the MCU, the two characters have not been shown to be related specifically.
Given the fact that Loki visits many alternate timelines in the MCU and in the comics, it is possible that the show visits one in which the two characters are familiar. Alternatively, it could also be revealed that they are actually related in the main timeline.
6 In love with Thor
One detail that the MCU did not leave behind in the comics is the fact that Lady Sif has a crush on Thor. Although their feelings in the MCU are unrequited, in the comics, they have been lovers at various points.
The two have been very close since childhood, but Thor fell in love with Jane Foster while on Earth. His affection for her seemed to preclude any possibility with Sif, but over the years, the two of them would grow romantics. Thor would eventually return to Jane, although in the multiverse, things didn’t always end so badly.
5 Sif and Thor’s son, Woden Thorson
In an alternate timeline in the Marvel multiverse, Sif and Thor married and had a son, Woden Thorson. Woden eventually becomes a warrior like his parents and a carrier of Mjolnir.
He was born in the 31st century timeline of the original Guardians of the Galaxy squad, some of Marvel Comics’ most important time travelers. Although Woden eventually became a great warrior, his relationship with his parents was difficult thanks to Thor’s constant need to be somewhere fighting battles.
4 Fighting Loki
A great battle that Sif and Thor participated in together was against Loki. On Thor # 192 In 1971, Loki takes control of Asgard. Sif teams up with Thor and the Warriors Three to liberate the kingdom.
Loki’s boldest attempt to conquer Asgard to date falls apart when Sif confronts him in the throne room. She warns him that he will have to kill her if he wants to maintain the government and, despite his constant cruelty towards her, he does not dare to do so. This causes the end of his reign.
3 Merging with Jane Foster
Loki isn’t the only Marvel Comics character to inhabit Sif’s body. Jane Foster also did it in Thor # 236 in 1975. The strange development occurs after Jane is injured and Sif fuses her life force with Jane’s. In the story leading up to the event, Lady Sif had realized that Thor was still in love with Jane.
The merger of Jane Foster and Lady Sif would somehow foreshadow that Jane would become a powerful version of Thor in the comics during Jason Aaron’s career in 2014. In both cases, Jane would eventually go back to being herself, although she is now a Valkyrie in the comics.
two Romance with Beta Ray Bill
Thor hasn’t been Sif’s only love interest in the comics. For a time, he also shared a bond with Beta Ray Bill. The alien warrior worthy of Mjolnir and Sif was drawn to each other over the course of the epic “Surtur War” saga, which ran in the comics between Thor # 349–359.
In the story, Thor gathered all his allies and even Loki to prevent Surtur from destroying Asgard. Sif and Bill would eventually go their separate ways, but they maintained great respect and admiration for each other.
1 War against King Thor
King Thor was a great potential bad for him Loki series at one point and remains a possibility in the MCU thanks to the story from the early 2000s that saw the God of Thunder turn evil. Lady Sif rose up against her former friend and lover, leading the rebellion against the increasingly imperious King Thor in a dark alternate future.
Sif plays an integral role in the story, becoming a mentor to Thor’s son Magni, whose mother was the comic’s first sorceress. Sif helps Magni see the error of Thor’s ways and together they undo the reign of King Thor.
