These lines do a great job of shedding more light on the characters featured in this movie, giving Natasha Romanoff more body, filling with emotion, or even just making the audience laugh. Regardless of who delivered the quote, fans will likely be talking about them for years to come.

10 “Could have been more famous than Captain America”

David Harbor as the Red Guardian in Black Widow

Although there are many trademarked MCU comic parts everywhere Black widow, you could argue that Alexei Shostakov (David Harbor) is the funniest part. A super soldier known as the Red Guardian, he spends his time yearning for the glory days he feels he deserves.

After his daughters get him out of jail, he explains how he feels about his life. He calls the time they spend together as a family in Ohio tedious and drops this line about comparing himself to Captain America. It shows how much you think of yourself and how disappointing you find your entire existence.

9 “I doubt the God of space has to take ibuprofen after a fight.”

Black Widow Yelena Natasha Drinks

The highlight of the film according to most critics is Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). One reason is that you get some of the funniest lines, especially when you call Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) about various things. That is especially true when they are in the store after escaping from the Taskmaster.

While talking about the Red Room, Yelena points out that they are secrets because they avoid the Avengers. Killing Natasha would bring in one of the “greats” to avenge her. When her sister asks who the “big guys” were, Yelena responds with this line, referencing how someone like Thor has an advantage over a human like Natasha.

8 “My girls are the toughest girls in the world”

The opening scene in Ohio sees the film’s main family barely leaving the country. Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz) leads them to Cuba, but is injured when they land. While Alexei talks to the superiors, the young Natasha protects Yelena from being taken to the Red Room.

Alexei takes the gun from her and tries to dissuade her, explaining that they will be fine because he thinks they are the toughest girls. Although letting them go to the Red Room was a terrible decision, there is some seriousness here and you can see how Alexei feels about his daughters.

7 “Now you can make your own decisions”

Red Room Black Widow

The final showdown between Natasha Romanoff and General Dreykov (Ray Winstone) is full of great lines delivered by the former. She calls him pathetic, says he’s nothing, and tells him that he will never hurt another girl because she was going to finish him off. However, the real highlight comes right after he seemingly escapes.

The bond between Natasha and Yelena is the driving force behind the film. Almost immediately they start arguing as brothers and that continues throughout the story. Their first real moment of friendly banter comes after they agree to tear down the Red Room together.

While in the car, Yelena talks about her vest, which is the first item she ever bought. She loves how many pockets she has and Natasha criticizes her for it. However, Natasha eventually admits that she likes the vest, prompting this response from Yelena. Pugh’s excited delivery is what makes this so great.

5 “This would be a great way to die”

Sometimes the best quotes are the ones referenced again later in the movie. That happened with a seemingly disposable line from Yelena as she piloted the helicopter as Alexei was released from prison. She accidentally causes an avalanche and looks in amazement at what is heading towards them.

Yelena says dying in an avalanche would be great and it’s another look at how the world sees now that she’s free. She calls when she is later held captive on a table and says, “This is a much less cool way to die.”

4 “I am not the killer girls call their hero”

Scarlett Johansson as Nat in Black Widow

Once again, it is another quote delivered by Yelena. At the store with Natasha, the two discuss the differences in where their lives went, with Yelena showing some anger towards Natasha regarding the Avengers as her real family and Natasha suggesting that she was trying to be more than a trained assassin.

Yelena responds by saying that they are both trained assassins and that their heroic efforts did not make up for the pain and suffering caused everywhere. She ends the conversation with this scathing line, saying that even though Natasha is seen as a hero, she is much darker than she appears on the surface.

3 “That was disgusting.”

A popular gag from the movie begins when Yelena asks Natasha why she strikes her signature pose and flicks her hair during fights. She calls her sister an imposter and does it again during the prison break because Natasha makes the superhero landing.

Everything returns to the starting point exceptionally during the climactic battle. Yelena comes out of a conduit and falls to the ground with her sister’s characteristic pose. He holds it for a second before shaking it off and calling it disgusting, showing that it’s certainly not his style.

two “The best part of my life was fake and none of you told me.”

His jokes are certainly hilarious, but Yelena also gets some of the most emotional lines in the movie. During the scene where the family is reunited at the dinner table, Natasha points out that they were only together for three years and that it wasn’t real, which breaks Yelena’s heart.

She enters a monologue where she says that the family was real to her and that Melina was the closest thing to a real mother she had. The real kicker comes when he says the line above because not only is it sad, but Yelena stops to take a deep breath before the second half due to how much it hurts. Her whole life was tragic and the only good part apparently meant nothing to those around her.

1 “For me it was real too”

Florence Pugh as Yelena and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha in Black Widow

During that emotional Yelena dinner speech, she says, “It was real to me,” when it comes to the family that the four main characters shared. At the time, none of them seemed to agree with her, including Natasha. However, Natasha was sincere at the end of the movie.

After saving Yelena’s life with a parachute, the two of them talked on the ground. Natasha apologized for leaving her so many years ago and said the above, confirming that the family was real to her too. It led to a hug between sisters, solidifying their bond.
