Loki creator and former Rick and Morty producer Michael Waldron addresses the similarities between the Marvel show and season 5 of the Adult Swim series.
Chief Writer of Loki and former producer of Rick and morty, Michael Waldron, spoke about the similarities between the Disney + series and season 5 of the animated show. Loki is at the end of its first season. After the events of Avengers Endgame, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) causes a nexus event that puts him on the radar of the Time Variance Authority (TVA). When Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) convinces him to help him locate another variant of Loki, there are many jumps in time and space.
Rick and morty He has also enjoyed his time playing around with his own multiverse, especially when it comes to variants of the two main characters and their family. In episode 3 of the current season, titled “A Rickconvenient Mort”, Rick takes his niece, Summer, to a few different planets that will soon experience an apocalypse. Despite his promise to Summer that this trip was only supposed to party, Rick ends up in an unlikely romance with an alien from one of the doomed planets.

On MRIn the recent interview with Waldron, he spoke about the talk that has been circulating about the similarities between the two shows. He admitted that when he got involved with Loki that you would still be working with a multiverse in a similar way as you did with Rick and morty. However, he noted that he has remained in contact with Rick and morty co-creator, Dan Harmon. In addition, he did not express the feeling of having stolen that program. See below for his full statement:
“I guess there are always different versions of Rick out there. The decoys were actually clone robots. I knew when I took the job that I was going to play in the same kind of multiversal sandbox and stuff. But I’ve exchanged text messages and things. with Harmon. So far, I don’t think I’ve ripped him off too much. We’ll see. “
There have been many similarities between Loki Y Rick and morty, although it is especially noticeable in the most recent episode of this latest series. As they jump from planet to planet, the overall visual aesthetics seen on each are not too far removed from those of Loki. Given the fact that Waldron was a producer on the animated show and created LokiIt is not too surprising to see some similarities between the two. However, episodes of Rick and morty feel much more autonomous while Loki it’s more of an ongoing story. Characters suffer consequences for their actions throughout the show and will continue to see the impact of their decisions on future Marvel properties.
The Disney + series and the Adult Swim program do what they seek to achieve, although their similarities have become increasingly difficult to ignore. Theories of the multiverse, nexus events, and apocalypses are discussed in both shows. However, their tone is quite different. Weather Loki certainly has many moments with comic relief, Rick and morty shows a lot of his adult humor at all times. Loki it still fits a lot in the context of the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whereas Rick and morty it is much clumsier with its tonal shifts that shift between tacky humor and dark themes that can feel like a punch to the stomach.
