The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD will cut long tutorial segments

The original Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword suffered from excessive tutorials. Luckily, the HD remake seems to be taking steps to remedy that.

New images of the next The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD confirms that players will get a more streamlined experience compared to the initial game. Thanks to the elimination of long tutorial sections and the mandatory explanatory dialogue, Link’s adventure in the heights should be much easier and less cumbersome to play.

As a remastering of the original Nintendo Wii 2011 title, Sword to the Sky HD aims to enhance the original in minor ways while maintaining its characteristic spirit and charm. This new version will bring features like advanced motion controls while adjusting or dimming less popular additions like Link’s talkative Fi companion. The relaunch will also feature higher resolutions and performance improvements, ensuring that it will meet the standards that gamers have come to expect from a modern Nintendo game. Apart from these changes, Sword to the Sky HD It appears to be a very faithful recreation of the decade-long adventure game.

Among the changes to the remastering are more streamlined and elegant tutorial sections, according to a recent video from Nintendo of america. The high resolution game footage is from an initial level of the game in which the player first learns the basic cross mechanics of climbing and jumping. In the video, Link receives a short dialogue message from his friend and teacher Horwell telling him that he can use his sprint ability to climb some boxes and then jump over a small space. The encounter is short and reflects other standard intro levels of the swamp in games of this type.

This is significantly truncated compared to the 2011 game; In the original release, Horwell’s dialogue dragged on for much longer, regularly interrupting the game to remind the player that the sprint mechanic can be used for the ride. The stamina indicator function is also explained in detail in the original game after Link climbs to the top of the boxes. Horwell’s instructions regarding the Z-lock also appear to have been removed. These changes were made with the intention of creating a “smoother gaming experience“as the Tweet says.

Many old games are guilty of including unnecessary or superfluous functions, and Zelda titles are no exception. Mechanics like stamina gauges and Z-lock have been staples in video games for decades at this point, so it’s reasonable to assume that most gamers will have enough gaming knowledge to understand them early on. By trimming the fat from the original 2011 game, Sword to the Sky HD seems to be allowing players the opportunity to learn the game without so much holding hands, which hopefully leads to a much more organic and less frustrating gaming experience.
