Disney movies tend to be feel-good movies and generally have a happy ending, but there are many non-Disney movies that can be just as lighthearted. Jumanji follows a group of brothers who discover a unique board game in their basement. When they start to play, they realize that the events that happen in the game also begin to occur in real life.
This movie is a classic movie that is surprisingly not owned by Disney. He also has a lot of movies in his franchise that are just as good as the original, like Zathura: a space adventure, Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle, and its sequel Jumanji: the next level.
7 A Monster Calls (2016)
A monster calls It’s about a boy named Connor who is dealing with so much more than other kids his age. His mother is terminally ill and he is also bullied at school. He then comes across a weakly talking yew tree that promises to tell him three stories, if Connor later tells him one.
This movie is much darker than typical Disney movies and is much sadder and while it is a family movie, it does deal with some heavy themes. This movie has a lot of beautiful images, symbolism and it is certainly a movie that will make viewers cry.
6 Where the Wild Things Are (2009)
Where the monsters live is about a boy named Max who runs away from home and comes across a magical world in the woods. While in the forest, he discovers unique creatures who decide to make him their leader.
This movie is completely unique and will bring back many childhood memories to adults. Its story is full of random and imaginative events that will amuse children and entertain their parents at the same time, just like many Disney movies.
5 Labyrinth (1986)
Labyrinth Follow a girl on a mission to rescue her little brother from the evil goblin king. To save your sister, you need to go through a maze that has many creatures, tricks and traps.

This franchise is so big that there are prequel movies titled The Hobbit and there will even be an Amazon series that takes place before the movies.
