Bachelor’s degree: Matt and Rachael strike back at franchise creator Mike Fleiss

After Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss dropped a sarcastic tweet about Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell, the pair didn’t hesitate to respond.

Matt James did not have an easy time as the leader of The Bachelor, and recently applauded a sarcastic comment from franchise creator Mike Fleiss. It’s no secret that Matt had a traumatic season of The Bachelor. meEven though he now seems to be in a good place with his girlfriend Rachael Kirkconnell, that doesn’t diminish what happened as the franchise’s first black lead. Fleiss recently tweeted about the couple, and Matt and Rachael responded immediately.

At the end of Matt’s season, he and Rachael went single, as he was initially unable to forgive her for racially insensitive behavior in her past. But over time the two began to talk and meet, and it wasn’t long before Matt confirmed that he and Rachael were dating. Since then, the couple has grown stronger. Mike Fleiss tweeted about Matt and Rachael after the awards, commenting “Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell come out of hiding at the ESPY Awards.Matt’s relationship with the franchise is somewhat strained, and the former star went so far as to erase the show from his Instagram bio, so it’s not surprising that he didn’t seem to appreciate Fleiss’s tweet. “There is no one hiding! “ Matt responded, with a photo of him and Rachael giving Fleiss their best cheeky face.

The former protagonist’s time in the franchise was not easy – he received a lot of undeserved criticism and hateful comments from racist fans. Even members of the Bachelor Nation, like Chris Harrison, displayed a staggering level of ignorance about Matt’s experiences as a black man. In fact, it’s surprising that Matt found love with Rachael after the show, given how much the decks stacked against her. Matt even talked about needing therapy after his season, so Fleiss’s tweet feels a bit numb to the traumatic experience Matt endured.

Even if The Bachelor it’s about finding love, most of the time it doesn’t happen. Matt and Rachael seem very happy together, but it happened against all odds. Mike Fleiss shouldn’t be kidding that Matt and Rachael came out of hiding after everything they’ve been through as a result of the show he created. However, Matt isn’t one to just play along, at least not now that he’s off the show. His quick response to Fleiss is another example of how Matt has surpassed the Bachelor Nation, perhaps forever.
