Black Widow director wants a Red Guardian spinoff movie

Black Widow director Cate Shortland wants David Harbor’s Red Guardian to get his own MCU movie and is glad he’s alive at the end of the movie.

Cate Shortland, Director of Black widow, he wants Red Guardian to get his own solo movie. Marvel’s latest theatrical entry went back in time to explore the history of Natasha Romanoff and what she was doing between the events of Captain America: Civil War Y Avengers: infinity war. Black widow It also dates back to Natasha’s childhood, spent in Ohio with Melina Vostokoff and Alexei Shostakov, aka Red Guardian, who act as pseudo parents to her and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. When Natasha discovers that Dreykov is still operating the Red Room, she enlists Yelena to help her get Alexei out of prison in hopes of ending Dreykov once and for all.

Of all the new characters introduced in Black widow, Red Guardian is one of the most prominent. Harbor’s character is obsessed with himself and his time as Russia’s answer to Captain America while avoiding the guilt he feels for sending Yelena and Natasha to the Red Room. Alexei also seems to want to rekindle his relationship with Rachel Weisz’s Melina as he grapples with his past actions and how his family feels about it in the present.

In an interview with The coatShortland says she filmed a lot of material with the Red Guardian and her family, images that often left her in tears with laughter. The director goes on to say that there were a lot of things that didn’t end up in the movie and that is why he finally believes that the Red Guardian needs its own movie, one that would be extremely fun.

Sometimes not sometimes often I’d be crying with laughter. And there were so many good things that didn’t end in the movie. But I think that’s why Red Guardian needs its own movie. Because it will be a lot of fun.

Black Widow Red Guardian Fighting Stance

With Red Guardian left alive at the end of Black widow, it is more than possible that you may get your own solo movie in the future or even a Disney + series. Harbor has even speculated on what Red Guardian was doing during Infinity war Y Endgame, which means you’ve thought a lot about what your character’s future will be like. It’s clear that the actor invested a lot in this character, from Alexei’s emotional core to the more boastful traits he uses to deflect these feelings.

Interestingly, Harbor has had discussions about the future of Red Guardian’s MCU, but was unable to reveal anything. If a solo Red Guardian movie were to be produced, it looks like it won’t be for quite some time. With the MCU hurtling toward Phase 4 of the franchise, plans are still beginning to take shape in the eyes of the audience. Black widow gave a hint as to where Yelena would end up after the movie, but as for the rest of the characters, it remains to be seen where they might appear again.
