Black Widow writer Eric Pearson talks about the tantalizing post-credits scene from Marvel Studio’s latest movie.
WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Black Widow, now in theaters and on Disney + Premier Access.
Black widow Writer Eric Pearson shed some light on the foreboding after-credits scene from the Marvel Studios movie.
“I loved the idea from the beginning that we opened the movie with Ohio and this peaceful moment where Natasha is a child,” Pearson said. ComicBook.com. “She basically lives as a girl, she forgot her whole mission as a secret Russian spy. And then we finish the movie with the fireflies again and she has been through this, she has reconciled with her past, she is at peace again, ready to go on and do. That ultimate sacrifice. So the idea of this family, whether it’s Yelena or the family, erecting a tombstone for her in Ohio, I found very moving, and I loved that. “
In the post-credits scene, Yelena Belova visits Natasha Romanoff’s grave, only to be greeted by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Apparently serving as Yelena’s employer, Valentina informs the grieving superspy that the one responsible for her surrogate sister’s death is Clint Barton / Hawkeye.
“As soon as I was told there was a character in Fontaine’s Valentina Allegra, and that it was going to be Julia Louis-Dreyfus, I couldn’t have gotten to the computer fast enough,” Pearson continued. “I was like, ‘Yes! Let me do it’. That’s me. I want to take a serious moment and then flush it down the toilet. I want to take that big moment where Yelena is really having a quiet moment of reflection with her long lost sister and then getting sucked off by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. nose and being so relentlessly pragmatic about everything. “
In late 2020, Florence Pugh’s Yelena was confirmed for Disney +. Hawkeye series, reportedly targeting a release date of fall 2021. That said, it shouldn’t be long before the seeds planted in Black widow begin to sprout throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Directed by Cate Shortland, Black widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbor as Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian, OT Fagbenle as Mason, and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff. The movie is now in theaters and on Disney + Premier Access.
