MCU architect Kevin Feige breaks down what’s happened in Phase 4 so far with WandaVision, Falcon & Winter Soldier, Loki, and Black Widow.
MCU Architect Kevin Feige looks at the Phase 4 movies and TV shows thus far. Marvel Studios was forced to delay the start of things with their new stories after wrapping up Infinity Saga due to the pandemic. But now that he’s back with a series of projects and several more in the pipeline, Feige remembers how this new chapter is shaping up for the franchise.
Starting and building the MCU to what it is today has not been easy for Marvel Studios. Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man it was a huge risk. Aside from the fact that Downey was still burdened by his personal struggles in recent years, there was also no complete script. Instead, there was a general trajectory for the film’s narrative, but the rest was decided during production. The success of the 2008 film laid the foundation for the franchise, with 24 films and three shows in its portfolio.
As the MCU reinvents itself, Feige sits down with Rotten tomatoes to discuss the transition from wrapping up Infinity Saga to starting this new general chapter for the universe. In the clip, the Marvel Studios boss discusses his approach going into Phase 4, including the idea of introducing new players to the universe who have quickly become fan favorites, such as WandaVisionAgnes / Agatha Harkness, The Falcon and the Winter SoldierJohn Walker, and LokiAgent Mobius M. Mobius.
While established characters have spearheaded Marvel Studios exclusive content for Disney +, these projects have also been used to debut new characters, as mentioned by Feige. While the MCU is known for its secrecy and there is no official confirmation yet as to when those players will appear in the universe, it’s safe to say that the producer’s comments are a clear indication that they are slated to appear in future projects. One character he didn’t mention is Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, who is featured in Black widow. Nat’s younger “sister” will participate in the next Hawkeye show and beyond, based on the Cate Shortland movie post-credits scene. However, it is understandable that this clip with Feige appears to have been shot a couple of weeks ago. Black widow it was released both in theaters and on Disney +.
Marvel Studios still has a stacked slate for the rest of the year. Apart from more TV shows like the animated series, What if…?, is also scheduled to continue to release movies in theaters again. Later Black widow, there are still three more movies on the record for this year alone with Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings, Eternal, Y Spider-Man: No Way Home. From there, the MCU will continue to have a stacked slate for years to come with no signs of slowing down.
