Throughout its eight seasons, game of Thrones it became famous for its violence and generally for being a rather dark and serious fantasy drama. However, the show is not without joy. There are occasional happy moments for some characters and even some really fun scenes to watch.
Tyrion Lannister alone provides audiences with a host of fun times and quotes. Then add in a few moments filled with awkward tension, unlikely romance, serious business fun facts, and more, and there’s a good handful of hilarious scenes.
10 Edmure’s archery miss
Edmure Tully was always a funny character in game of Thrones, never being particularly useful throughout the show. At the funeral of his father, Hoster Tully, Edmure delivers a scene without dialogue but full of awkwardness, which makes it hilarious.
According to Tully lore, Edmure is tasked with shooting fire arrows at the boat carrying his father’s body up the Red Fork on the Trident. Edmure fires multiple arrows, missing all of them, before Blackfish steps in and brilliantly hits the target the first time. The discomfort and tension helped make this scene even more fun, as everyone is behind Edmure, holding back smiles.
9 Arya laughs
Arya Stark experiences a lot of tragedy in the early seasons of Game of Thrones, which leads her to travel with The Hound, some of the best parts of the show’s early seasons. When the two of them showed up in the Valley looking for Arya’s aunt, it was a morbidly funny moment.
Upon learning that her Aunt Lysa, one of the show’s low-key villains, has died, Arya can only react by bursting into laughter as the Hound watches, angered by the bewilderment. It’s horrible that a girl can only face the news that her aunt dies laughing, but it’s hard not to join her as it clearly doesn’t bother her and the fact that she laughs at the Dog for not being able to pawn her. makes it even better.
8 Stannis grammar watch
Stannis Baratheon is as stoic and little fun as he sounds, with fans criticizing him on Reddit for being so boring. However, contrary to this, Stannis’ control of grammar and annoyance at misusing the English language is inadvertently hilarious.
When Ser Davos uses the word “minor” twice, in seasons 2 and 5, Stannis corrects him with the correct phrase. “minus “and doesn’t follow up on an initially confused Davos. Ser Davos brilliantly solves this after his literacy skills improved when Jon Snow uses the word” minus “and Davos makes the correction. Stannis may not be pleasant, but his grammar correctness is one of the best running jokes in game of Thrones.
7 The removal of Brienne Of Tarth from Tormund’s advances
Tormund Giantsbane lives up to characters like Tyrion and the Hound in funny characters in game of Thrones, and some of his funniest moments involve his deep crush on another prominent character, Ser Brienne of Tarth.
There are many scenes to choose from, and they are all hilarious, if horribly raw and sexist. His cheesy and sexist comments, as well as the way he hits her after the Battle of Winterfell, are pathetic but hilarious. However, this is not only due to Tormund and his vulgar nature, but also to Brienne’s reactions, as she is generally upset and annoyed whenever Tormund looks at her, and the way she turns away or turns her back on him when he is near. makes for some great comic moments.
6 Tyrion slaps joffrey
Arguably there is no character at all game of Thrones that’s just as obnoxious, loathsome, and downright slappable as Joffrey Baratheon. Fans shared this opinion with Tyrion and they were able to do what so many audience members wish they could.
In the second episode, Joffrey finds that Tyrion passed out in the stable, and during a conversation with his uncle, he comments that he hates “crying women”, prompting a brilliant slap from Tyrion. Tyrion immediately hits him again for ignoring his warning not to say another word, and complains about telling Tyrion. The scene is great because it shows Joffrey as a coward and finally getting his fair desserts.
5 Bronn beats Jaime
Jaime Lannister lost his famous fighting hand was an important factor in his becoming one of the Game of Thrones’ better and more layered characters. It also led to some fun times with Bronn.
Bronn is another character who always makes funny jokes, including many towards Jaime throughout their time together. Here, after seeming to come to a standstill in a sparring battle, Bronn rips off Jamie’s golden hand and smacks him in the face with it. It’s a dirty, cool, and hilarious fight, and Jaime’s confused reaction makes it even more so. The two end up sitting down and having a pretty heartwarming conversation about Tyrion, but the opening fight is worth a laugh.
4 Tyrion confesses in the valley
Keeping up with the fun Lannister scenes, Tyrion Lannister is not only one of the best characters on the show for a while, but also one of the funniest, with one of his most iconic and fun scenes in season one in the Valley.
When he stands trial for sending an assassin to kill Bran, a false accusation, Tyrion confesses. Sounding solemn, he goes on a tangent about his gambling, lies, and other crimes, before it becomes very clear that he is not confessing to the crime Catelyn wants. Tyrion moves the confession to a rather unpleasant encounter with a pot of stew and begins his joke about the donkey and the honeycomb. It gets gasps from the crowd, as well as chuckles, which is a testament to the great writing and acting of Peter Dinklage.
3 Tyrion plays mind games with chairs
Sticking with Tyrion, a big part of his character is how upset, disgusted, and hateful everyone is with him, especially those like Cersei and Tywin. This makes the awkward chair scene even more fun.
Arriving at the small council meeting, Tyrion slowly drags a large chair to the end of the table in front of his father as the floors creak, right after Cersei lifts a chair to sit next to his father. Tywin, Littlefinger, Pycell, Cersei, and Varys join the scene with their gazes of varying gravity. The lack of dialogue, the personality that each character radiates, and Tyrion’s sheer attitude make it one of the most iconic hilarious moments, crowned with an “Intimate.” and a joke about Tywin’s meeting place.
two Davos doesn’t talk so much about Jon Snow
Ser Davos and Jon Snow have one of the best dynamics and relationships of mutual respect in recent seasons. Yet despite this respect, Davos struggles to put together an impressive introduction for Jon to Daenerys.
When the pair arrive at Dragonstone, Missandei introduces Daenerys as “Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, rightful heir to the Iron Throne, rightful Queen of the Andals and the First Men, protector of the Seven Kingdoms, the Mother of Dragons, the Khaleesi of the great sea of grass, the one who does not burn, the one who breaks chains “. After an awkward pause, Davos walks over to introduce Jon to Daenerys as “This is Jon Snow. He is the King of the North.” It’s an excellently crafted comic moment.
1 Podrick’s Gift
Ser Podrick Payne, friend and loyal squire to Tyrion Lannister and later Brienne of Tarth, earned one of the most flattering nicknames of some of the game of Thrones fandom on Pod “the Rod”, derived from a hilarious scene with Tyrion and Bronn.
Wanting to reward Pod, Tyrion gives him a bag of money and a visit to some women in a brothel. Sometime later, Pod returns to Tyrion and Bronn’s company, returning the money and stating that the women did not charge Pod for their services. Bronn and Tyrion’s impact is fantastic, demanding “rich detail,” and Pod’s innocent delivery makes it even more fun.
