Vinland Saga returns for season 2, and manga fans know what will come next. These are the key moments we want to see animated.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Vinland Saga manga written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura, now available in English through Kodansha.
The Epic Story of Makoto Yukimura Vinland Saga He has long dazzled and thrilled manga and anime fans with the heartfelt tale of Thorfinn Karlsefni, the Viking boy who lost everything when Askeladd betrayed and killed his father one day in the Faroe Islands. A 24-episode anime captured the first arc of Thorfinn’s journey, and now, at last, the medieval adventure is about to resume.
With Season 2 formally confirmed, there has never been a better time to immerse yourself in the world of Vinland Saga. Manga fans know what awaits them on Thorfinn’s difficult but historic journey to create a peaceful kingdom of Vinland, far from the bloodshed of Europe. These are the main manga moments that we hope to see in season 2.
Thorfinn facing his dark past on Ketil’s farm
Fans of the Vinland Saga sleeve Know that Thorfinn, the brave underdog hero, is about to look inward to discover his future and determine his purpose. Until now, she had made sense of violence and sought revenge against Askeladd, her father’s murderer, but that paradigm has since been broken. Askeladd was already trying to steer Thorfinn from the path of violence and war when Canute killed him, making Thorfinn’s journey of revenge moot.
Now Thorfinn has nothing but his own horrible memories, and the growing guilt of realizing how many people he has killed, some of whom were innocent. The ghosts of the slain dead haunt his dreams as Thorfinn screams every night in his sleep, unable to escape the memories of those fallen warriors. If Thorfinn doesn’t do something soon, these ghosts will drag him into the dark forever. Seeing this in anime form, with a haunting soundtrack and emotionally charged voice acting, should be a real treat.
Thorfinn trying a constructive project
As the Vinland Saga The manga continues, Thorfinn has something else to keep him busy: the hard work of a pawn in Denmark. He is now a slave belonging to a farmer named Ketil, although he is treated quite well considering his position. Indeed, Thorfinn and his new ally Einar have the opportunity to cut down a forest and plant their own wheat field. If they earn enough cash from wheat sales, the two of them can buy their freedom.
This is hard work, no doubt, but Thorfinn enjoys it as he gets a chance to create something and takes his mind off other things. No doubt Vinland Saga Season 2 will feature some stunning scenery to represent Ketil’s farm and Thorfinn’s journey of planting the wheat field, and there should be more than a little uplifting music to accompany the montages showing his and Einar’s progress.
When Canute and Thorfinn face off over the fate of Denmark
Many historical figures and events are depicted in Vinland Saga with some creative freedoms, including the real-life King Canute, who once ruled Denmark and England. On Vinland SagaIn the first season, Prince Canute was a meek and shy boy who needed Ragnar and later Askeladd to take care of him, but he dared to defy his father, King Sweyn, and soon replaced him.
In the upcoming season 2, Canute will be a mighty and fearless king worthy of the Vikings, and he will begin an aggressive military campaign involving Denmark. The anime is set to depict a tougher and more severe King Canute in all his glory, and it will be fascinating to hear his voice perform. Now a true Danish king, he and Thorfinn will intersect once again when Canute attempts to annex Denmark’s farms (including Ketil’s) for his war effort. Thorfinn doesn’t like what Canute is doing, and the two sides will solve this with careful diplomacy or the sword.
The arrival of Gudrid, Hild and other characters
The end of Vinland Saga Season 1 hinted at a handful of supporting characters to come, including Einer, who should appear early in Season 2 as Thorfinn’s farmmate. Once the deal with Canute is settled, Thorfinn will form his own crew, recruiting idealistic misfits and rogues who share his love of freedom and adventure. One of them is Gudrid, who is engaged to Sigurd but longs to fly free rather than become a housewife on the remote shores of Iceland.
Seeing the upbeat and idealistic Gudrid in anime form, from her voice acting to the sound effects of her various pranks and pranks, should be a lot of fun. There is also the matter of Hild, a vindictive young woman from Norway who wants Thorfinn dead no matter what. She wields a custom-made crossbow and is a skilled hunter, and her intense battle with Thorfinn in the Norwegian desert is sure to be an animation marvel. Even better, Vinland Saga Season 2 will have even more adventures after these.
