WWE Hall of Famer and professional wrestling icon “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff dies at the age of 71.
Wwe Hall of Famer “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff died at the age of 71.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my father, Paul Parlette Orndorff Jr.,” wrote Travis, Paul’s son, on Instagram. “It is better known as [“Mr. Wonderful”] Paul Orndorff. Most of you will remember him by his physique. Many will remember its intensity. But if only he could make you understand and see his heart. It will always be Pop, Paw Paw and Daddy at home. And as much as many of you hated him as a fighter, he absolutely loved you for it. He was an amazing father who showed me more love than I ever deserved. I love you dad.”
Orndorff began wrestling in the 1970s for various promotions before joining WWE (the World Wrestling Federation at the time) in 1983. His manager, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, gave him the nickname “Mr. Wonderful. “which would stay with him for the rest of his career.
In 1988, Orndorff took a break from professional wrestling, but returned in 1990, this time for World Championship Wrestling. However, that period was short-lived, and he soon found himself competing for various other promotions, including Smoky Mountain Wrestling, before returning to WCW for a long career from 1992-2001.
In 2005, Orndorff was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and would make two more brief comebacks in 2014. His last match was in 2017 for Canadian Wrestling’s Elite.
Since news of his passing broke, various members of the professional wrestling community have paid their respects to Orndorff.
