Friends star Courtney Cox finally received her first Emmy nomination for her work on the comedy, decades after all of her co-stars received theirs.
At last, Courtney Cox earned her first and only Emmy nomination for her work on Friends. The beloved sitcom was one of the most iconic shows of the 1990s, and even today, its cast is well known worldwide. From 1994 to 2004, Friends It remained an integral part of the pop culture zeitgeist, taking the more traditional aspects of how sitcoms were made at the time and injecting new life into the whole process. Not all aspects of Friends it has aged well, but has continually managed to attract new audiences in its heyday.
Regardless of how much the public liked it Friends Over the years, that love hasn’t been shared equally when it comes to accolades for the cast. Throughout his ten-year period, five of Friends’ the central stars have been nominated or have won Emmy Awards. The only cast member who never received a nomination for her work was Courtney Cox, who played Monica Geller, the uptight and fussy cleaning fanatic. But finally, years later Friends disconnected from the air, that has changed.
For Variety, Cox was one of the 2021 Emmy nominees. She was recognized for producing the Friends reunion special that premiered on HBO Max earlier this year. Cox was an executive producer on the special, as were her five co-stars and Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane.
Friends received a total of 62 Emmy nominations over its ten years, with cast members Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow the only two to actually take home trophies. In fact, of the entire cast, it was Kudrow who had the most wins, with two Emmy Awards under his belt. Yet for Cox, the lack of recognition for his work throughout the series was understandably a thorn in his side. The 57-year-old recently revealed how disturbing it was to see her co-stars being recognized for their performances while she was left outside in the cold. And while that certainly wouldn’t be an easy situation to endure, Cox became a staple in the He shouted franchise, something many horror fans are still thankful for.
It’s hard to say why Cox stayed out of Emmys contention for so long, but part of that might have to do with how audiences received Monica’s character. Often considered annoying by many Friends fans, Monica lacked the charm that seemed to come naturally to the rest of the cast of characters. That’s not to say that Cox didn’t deserve recognition for his work, just that it’s always harder to love a character people don’t want to be friends with. However, 25 years later, Cox finally has her own Emmy credentials. What’s more, if she wins, all three Friends the women will have claimed the prize.
