WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 1, Episode 4, “A Whisper, Not a Scream,” which is now airing on Disney +.
The successful adaptation of the young adult book series The mysterious Benedict Society It has proven to be an engaging and quirky family show. Yet alongside its colorful aesthetic and clever puzzles, there’s an underlying sense of unease as the protagonists battle the Emergency. Two members of the Society get closer than ever to the source of the Emergency in a new clip of the episode that will be released soon.
The mysterious Benedict society Follow four abandoned children on a mission to save the world. After passing a series of unconventional and grueling ordeals, Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance have teamed up to help Mr. Benedict uncover the truth behind the insidious Emergency that is causing so much sadness and despair across the country. After tracing the origin of a mysterious signal to the island of the Institute of Learning for the Very Enlightened, the Society enrolls in the school to delve into the source of the mystery. At the end of the most recent episode, Reynie and Sticky are promoted to the elite group of Messengers at the Institute, giving them more access to the source of the signal, while Kate is nearly expelled.
In an exclusive clip from Episode 5, Sticky and Reynie sport their official Messenger outfits. Their matching pants, shirts and vests provide a uniform that distinguishes them as some of the best students at the Institute. While the new outfit is in keeping with the colorful Wes Anderson-style garb from the rest of the show, the lack of their individual personalities represents a huge shift for the characters, and suggests something of the danger of conformity when climbing the ranks at the Institute.
At the end of the clip, the director of the Institute, LD Curtain, dons Reynie and Sticky’s uniform, explaining not only the luxury of the costumes, but also how each child earned their own. While Reynie says he’s confident and seems baffled by his promotion to Messenger, Sticky hesitates. Mr. Curtain gives Sticky a pep talk, explaining how he earned his place among the Messengers even after he helped Kate cheat on a test in the previous episode.
Based on this clip, the fifth episode of The mysterious Benedict society promises to further blur the lines between good and evil, between Mr. Benedict and Dr. Curtain, as Reynie and Sticky search for community, but struggle to remain individual and true to their original mission.
The mysterious Benedict societystarring Tony Hale, Seth Carr, Mystic Inscho and more, releases new episodes every Friday on Disney +.
