WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Marvel’s Black Widow, which is now showing in theaters and on Disney + Premier Access.

Since Steve Rogers / Captain America took over the Super Soldier serum, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured several characters with similar abilities. The most recent appeared in Black widow: Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian. The Russian version of the super soldier, Red Guardian is a formidable foe and possesses an array of incredible abilities that make him more than just a man, just like Captain America. However, while there are many similarities between Red Guardian and Captain America, the two are different in some key ways. In this video, we will go over the differences between Captain America and the Red Guardian.

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, it is not entirely clear what form the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take. While there is a good indication that the characters Disney acquired from 21st Century Fox will be arriving soon, there isn’t much solid information on when or how that might happen. Right now, there are many potential directions the MCU could take in the future, although exactly where it will go remains to be seen. That said, Red Guardian survives the events of Black widow, so it is very possible that it will appear at some point in the future of the MCU.
