Since its debut in Pokémon Gold and Silver, Shiny Pokémon have been fan favorite additions to any game they appear in. Previously, Shining Pokémon had been largely absent from the Mysterious dungeon Secondary series, with the exception of some NPCs and a Japan-only Wii-Ware game. However, this all changed with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, which allows players to recruit certain shiny creatures.

Before we begin, it is crucial to note that only a few Pokémon can appear Shiny in the game. Theses are Butterfree, Ninetales, Rapidash, Electrode, Exeggcute, Exeggutor, Starmie, Magikarp, Gyarados, Ditto, Dragonite, Hoothoot, Noctowl, Ampharos, Azumarill, Sudowoodo, Aipom, Espeon, Wobbufett, Shutaria, Corsola, Celebi, Spinda, Al , Zangoose, Metagross, Ambipom and Lickilicky.

When selecting a dungeon, a yellow symbol will be displayed next to the name of the dungeon if a strong enemy can appear within it. Highlighting the dungeon will reveal which Pokémon it is. Only strong enemies can appear shiny, so start by simply selecting which shiny Pokémon you want to hunt. Next, make sure you have a strong team of Pokémon dedicated to recruiting. Ideally, this means Pokémon with the Rare Qualities Friendly and Squad Up, plus a leader equipped with a Friend Bow. To maximize your odds, make sure your leader with the Friend Bow also knows False Swipe, as defeating a Pokémon with the move increases the chances that it will join the team.

Before heading out, grab a few orbs, specifically the Invitation Orb to further increase recruitment rates and the Rare Quality Orb, which does the same for Pokémon with a Rare quality. With all these cumulative effects, your recruitment rate is as high as possible.

As soon as you enter the dungeon, start knocking out any Pokémon you find. The first objective is to fill the team with eight members, the maximum for any dungeon. Doing so will maximize the effect of Squad Up, which increases the recruitment rate the more team members you currently have. Once this is done, you will need a bit of luck. Strong enemies aren’t incredibly rare, but they don’t always spawn and only spawn from specific floors that vary by dungeon.

The best strategy is to spend as much time as possible on a certain floor until you are forced to move on. Eventually, a strong enemy is likely to appear. While Shiny’s exact spawn rates are unknown, it is much lower than in the main games. Shiny Pokémon will appear quite infrequently, and as soon as they do, it’s time to fight. First, make sure the rest of your team is set up not to use moves, as if a teammate lands the finishing blow, the Pokémon cannot be recruited.

After locating the Shiny and making sure your teammates can’t attack it, use your Invitation Orb and Rare Quality Orb. If possible, stand at the end of a hallway to make sure there is absolutely no chance that other teammates could cause harm. Defeat the Shiny (although keep in mind that this can be a difficult task depending on how far along the game is in your chosen dungeon) preferably with False Swipe and I hope you are lucky. Otherwise, stay on the same floor as long as possible before being forced to move on and repeat this method on the next floor. This may require multiple battles, or even multiple dungeons, but it will eventually give the results you are looking for.

The outlier here is Celebi. It is the only Pokémon that is not a strong enemy, and also the only Legendary or Mythical Pokémon that can appear Shiny in the game. Celebi earns this status as a reference to the Shiny Celebi that appears prominently in Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky. To recruit a Shiny Celebi, players must first conquer the daunting Purity Forest, a dungeon that requires a single Pokémon to enter level 5 and clear 99 floors.

Purity Forest is the last challenge in the game and requires a bit of luck to complete. By finally doing so, Celebi waits at the end of the dungeon and will automatically join the rescue team. With Celebi recruited, you will gain access to his rescue camp, Healing Forest. After reaching this milestone, Shiny Celebi can rarely appear inside Mystery Houses within dungeons. These prerequisites make it the hardest Shiny to obtain in the game.

There are a total of 27 Shiny Pokémon available in DX rescue team. Recruiting them all will surely take a lot of luck, but with the methods outlined here, you should have everything you need to begin your search for these elusive creatures.
