A new agreement with ViacomCBS Consumer Products will see Playmates Toys launch new Star Trek toys in 2022, which will include new and old shows.
A new licensing agreement between Playmates Toys and ViacomCBS Consumer Products will see new lines of Star trek Toys hitting shelves in 2022. The deal is meant to coincide with the release of the CG animation Star Trek: Prodigy, which will be the first Star trek series intended for the youngest viewers. Playmates Toys has produced products for the Star Trek universe in the past, having had the Toy Master License from 1992 to 1999. During that time, the company manufactured numerous toys for various Star trek properties, including Deep Space Nine, the next generation, and even the original series. The company also manufactured products for JJ Abrams’ 2009 Star trek movie.
According to Startrek.com, the agreement will see Playmates Toys manufacture new toys for Star trek shows, including Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Y Star Trek: Lower Decks. The deal also extends to future shows and movies that have yet to be announced, and beyond action figures, it includes ships, vehicles, and other aspects such as role-playing games. Dion Vlachos, Executive Vice President, Hardlines and Retail, ViacomCBS Consumer Products, said: “We are delighted to also enter the toy aisle with Playmates, offering a new generation of fans of this world toys that will allow them to embark on their own Star Trek adventures at home.”
