In the final act of Space Jam: A New Legacy, a massive actor makes a cameo that harks back to one of his previous roles on a hit NBC series.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Space Jam: A New Legacy, now in theaters and on HBO Max.

In the final act of Space Jam: a new legacy, fans of the original movie get a hilarious cameo when Sylvester gets Michael Jordan for the Tune Squad. However, it is not “His Airness”, it is Michael B. Jordan, who ends up giving a pep talk to LeBron and the Looney Tunes. But while it seems like a cheesy Hollywood cameo to inject some A-list star power into the film, there is a bit of nuance to Jordan’s brief appearance as it harks back to one of his previous roles.

The Tunes are disappointed that Sylvester ripped the Black Panther Crowd actor as they desperately needed a boost in the locker room, losing by hundreds of points at halftime to the Goon Squad. But Jordan makes it clear that they can win because they have heart and soul, not to mention the fact that LeBron James rallied the Cleveland Cavaliers from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors to win the 2016 NBA Finals.

However, in his inspiring speech, Jordan tells the Tunes, “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t be missed,” which doesn’t resonate and prompts LeBron to ask him to leave. But fans who have followed Jordan’s career would know that this is NBC’s inspirational line. Friday night lights, where Jordan appeared in the last two seasons as Vince Howard.

Friday night lights ran for five seasons and this line was the one that coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) always used to rile his football team and remind the Dillon Panthers of what was at stake, win or lose. Howard got into the thick of things in season 4, playing for the team rather than the other option: going to Juvie. He had become the new quarterback because of his prowess. However, he would face tough challenges such as his mother going to drug rehab, an authoritarian father, and also an ego problem when he exploded.

Taylor ultimately benched Vince for alienating his teammates and killing morale with his attitude, only for him to mature and lead the Panthers to big wins. It’s ironic, as many critics felt LeBron had similar issues, and this movie also pokes fun at LeBron’s diva mentality at times, how he needs to build super teams or how he goes when the chips are low.

It’s all taken as a joke, but it’s true that LeBron could have done it with MJ instead of the Adonis Creed actor as an actor. Friday night lights Line wasn’t helping with the rigged game for the Tunes to lose. As for Jordan, it’s a good way to revisit the past Friday night lights was a direct prelude to his rise to stardom in movies like Chronicle, Fruitvale Station, Fantastic Four, Black Panther Y Creed.

Now in theaters and on HBO Max, discover LeBron James and the Looney Tunes gang in Space Jam: A New Legacy.
