The latest episode of season 2 of Apple TV’s Ted Lasso has rekindled their most explosive love triangle after a shocking comeback at AFC Richmond.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 2, Episode 2, “Lavender,” now available on Apple TV +.
Much like season 1 of Ted Ribbon dealt with coach Ted’s (Jason Sudeikis) adaptation to football and England, a large part of the series focused on a particular love triangle at AFC Richmond. It was with Keeley (Juno Temple), Ted’s veteran captain Roy (Brett Goldstein) and Jamie (Phil Dunster), who added romantic drama to the club’s comedic tales. Now season 2 has rekindled this explosive love triangle, with Jamie making an impressive return to Richmond.
Roy hated Jamie. He was also jealous that Jamie had a decent girl like Keeley. Eventually, Keeley left the immature womanizer Jamie and joined Roy. Now they seem to be happy as their relationship matures. Keeley focuses on her branding work more than modeling and seems settled, growing and inspired by her new boyfriend.
But the second episode of this season ends with Ted bringing in Jamie after his contract with Man City was canceled to help his promotional offer. The thing is, this Jamie can be the perfect version that Keeley always wanted him to be. He reached out to her, vulnerable and honest, hinting that he wanted purpose and direction, prompting her to push him toward Ted and beg his forgiveness. He loves strong men to be passionate and open, which is what he sometimes gets from Roy.
If Jamie keeps up this redemption arc, there is a strong chance that Keeley will fall into the trap again, as her past has a lot of substance amid all the glamor and style. The final shot has her boss and club owner, Rebecca, looking at Keeley and noticing how Keeley stares wide-eyed at Jamie on the field.
It may be a concern for her future and how the players and staff regain her after her narcissistic ways, but it could be that Rebecca feels a spark once again. If the pressures of his soccer experience get to him, Roy could end up going from romantic to jerk again, which means if he spirals downward, a rising Jaime can capitalize.
Once he’s able to push the correct buttons, she might gravitate toward him as he’ll be closer to Keeley. It sets up a story of jealousy that will come between both men again, which could affect Jamie on the field as well. Ultimately, she will put Keeley to the test as she tries to figure out which man is the ideal fit for her life goals.
Starring Jason Sudeikis as the starting coach, Ted Lasso season 2 is underway on Apple TV +. The first two episodes are airing now, and subsequent episodes are available every Friday.
