Of course, neither star needs much of an introduction, with Bradley’s Pinhead and Englund’s Krueger appearing in 16 massive movies between them, and creating two of the best-known characters in the genre. While both films have suffered diminishing returns over the years with the latest installments of the Hellraiser series to feature Bradley who wisely ducked from 2011 Revelations and 2018 Judgment– skipping straight to DVD releases, the last of which was in 2005. Englund’s Krueger at least managed to get all of his appearances into his latest on-screen movie from Freddy vs. Jason hit theaters and none of its entries reached the depths of the Hellraiser series when it came to continuity and coherence.

As for the future of the franchises, there’s little chance of any of the actors reprising their respective roles in new movies, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the monsters they originally brought to life on screen again. A new Hellraiser movie has just finished filming and is expected to hit Hulu next year. This time around, the High Priest of Pain will take on the female form of Jamie Clayton, who will essentially bring the character back to the roots of Clive Barker’s original novel. The infernal heart, which depicted Pinhead as an almost genderless being with a very fluid nature. Additionally, a TV series based on the franchise has also been in the works since last year, so perhaps a new break will bring new blood to the franchise after a couple of decades of lackluster and cheap sequels.

When it comes to Freddy Krueger, he’s a bit more ambiguous. Englund himself has commented that he is now too old to do the work necessary to bring the character back to life, although he did come out of Freddy’s retirement to appear on an episode of the television show. The Goldbergs. Unlike the often compared Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th movies, which is quiet and mostly hidden under his mask and prosthetics, Robert Englund is essentially Freddy Krueger in every way. While there’s always the chance that someone could take on the character, and indeed Jackie Earle Haley tried it in the 2010 reboot, after nearly 40 years as the face of Freddy, it’s hard to imagine someone taking over the character. without him. Feeling like a pastiche However, there is always talk of new iterations of the Nightmare on Elm Street, and with numerous streaming options, chances are we haven’t seen the last of Springfield’s knife-fingered killer.

See these two icons in conversation on the Horror Hub Marketplace on Twitch starting at 8 p.m. EST on October 14, this Thursday. What it turns out to be today.
