A new rumor has arisen that another Super Smash Bros. There’s a fighting game of sorts to come, but this time from Warner Bros. An anonymous source on Reddit leaked the alleged game that you normally don’t pay attention to. However, Redditor also noted that Warner Bros. trademarked the name “Multiversus” in September, a possible title for this upcoming video game.
The Redditor also suggested that the game was being developed by Netherrealm, the studio behind Mortal Kombat and injustice. However, GamesBeats.com’s Jeff Grubb wrote on Twitter that the game is real, but is not being developed by Netherrealm. The Redditor also described the game as a “tag team game,” but what that means is still unclear.
Nothing has been confirmed yet and this is all just rumor information, but the Redditor also shared information on what characters we got to see in this game. So far Redditor says this game will feature Shaggy from Scooby Doo, Gandalf, Batman, Fred Flinstone, Tom & Jerry, Mad Max and Johnny Bravo. They mention Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, however, they say this could be false as the rights of these characters are unclear.
Multiversus it would be the third attempt to replicate the massive success of Nintendo’s crossover fighting game. In 2012, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale was released, bringing together many of the exclusive Playstation characters. This game was not a huge success, as it included some changes to the game that fans weren’t totally happy with. It’s true that watching Nathan Drake from Uncharted take on Ratchet & Clank and Kratos from God of War it was intriguing.
The latest game, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, placed many of Nickelodeon’s popular characters in the arena, including SpongeBob, Leonardo, and Aang. The Redditor said that Warner Bros. the game was in the works before Nickelodeon announced its game.
The biggest advantage Warner Bros. would have over these other games, even over Nintendo, is the large amount of IP the studio owns. Multiversus could include characters from The Lord of the rings, Harry Potter, DC, Matrix, Looney tunes, Hanna-Barbera, Mortal Kombat, game of Thrones, And the list goes on and on. Nintendo has brought characters for Super Smash Bros that are not his property. Recently, DLC for Super Smash Bros: Ultimate including Kazuya from Tekken, Steve from Minecraftand Sora from kingdom hearts. However, Warner Bros. is much less limited in terms of who they can get. Injustice they are just DC characters and that already has a great list.
The idea of these types of games with Warner Bros. characters is exciting and the possibilities are truly endless. Just imagining a four-way fight between Gandalf, Batman, Shaggy, and Tom & Jerry sounds absurd but also amazing.
