Universal still hadn’t given up on doing more with Night race with several subsequent attempts to revive the brand. Another sequel to the film languished in development hell for decades, though at one point in the early 2010s Timothy Dowling jumped on board to write a script for a new movie. Night race continuation. That undone project would have brought De Niro back as Jack Walsh to pair him with a “younger comic film.”
