We have yet to see Tom Hanks in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that’s not because the actor turned down offers. Since the MCU’s release, Marvel movies have essentially taken over the box office and every new release is practically guaranteed to be a hit. The financial success has attracted many legendary Hollywood names to appear in major roles at various points during the course of the MCU, including Anthony Hopkins, Glenn Close, Angela Bassett, Michael Douglas, and Robert Redford.
Hanks still cannot be included on that list, and he has revealed why, explaining that he simply never got a call from Marvel Studios. Hanks recently appeared on the SmartLess podcast with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett to discuss his illustrious career. Arnett was puzzled as to why Hanks hadn’t gotten the Marvel treatment yet with the studio seemingly gobbling up all the other big names in Hollywood. When asked directly why Hanks hasn’t been cast in the superhero movie franchise, here’s what the actor had to say.
“Here’s the problem. First of all, they’ve never called me once. No, no, never. And I think if one of these days they do, they’d say, ‘Is there any way you would consider playing a secretary of defense? You know, a guy who comes in and says, ‘Please help us Ultraman, we can’t survive!’ I’d be one of those guys. “
Tom Hanks then shares his take on the superhero movie franchises that have been dominating the industry in recent years, noting how “some of them are great.” SmartLess presenters note that Hanks is one of the few big-name actors who sticks with stories that stand on their own as independent films. For the most part, Hanks generally doesn’t revisit the roles he plays, always flipping from one original project to another, and rarely doing sequels.
That said, Tom Hanks does the voice of Woody in the Toy story movies, so it’s not that you’re opposed to joining a major franchise. As the actor explained, you can’t exactly accept a role if you never got a call in the first place. Given his abilities and popularity, it seems strange that Marvel Studios executives haven’t reached their piggy bank yet to send Hanks a good offer, but at the same time, it’s not like the MCU is slowing down anytime soon. There are more than enough upcoming Marvel projects for Hanks to eventually find his way.
These days, Tom Hanks has been impressing viewers and audiences with his new movie. Finch, which is breaking records with its streaming audience on Apple TV +. This followed Apple’s launch of Greyhound last year the actor also wrote. He also has many projects that his fans can look forward to. The actor will play Colonel Tom Parker in the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic alongside Geppetto live-action at Disney’s. Pinocchio remake for Disney +.
Until Hanks enters the MCU, fans can go ahead and speculate on which Marvel character might be the best fit to play. For more information on Hanks’ career, you can check out the interview at the SmartLess Podcast.
