Emmanuel lubezki made history by receiving the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on ‘The reborn‘(Alejandro González Iñárritu, 2015). The previous year he collected the same award for ‘Bird man‘(Alejandro González Iñárritu, 2014), being his second statuette after that of’Gravity‘(Alfonso Cuarón, 2013). No cinematographer has accomplished that feat in three consecutive ceremonies.
The Mexican, who had already surprised by his magnificent photography in previous titles such as’Sleepy hollow‘(Tim Burton, 1999),’The new World‘(Terrence Malick, 2005),’Sons of men‘(Alfonso Cuarón, 2006) or’The Tree of Life‘(Terrence Malick, 2011), has managed to become one of the fundamental figures behind the camera in today’s Hollywood. His elaborate sequence shots have even managed to bring this resource to the general public, now pending of when a camera cut is introduced or not like never before seen.

Following his feat at the American Academy Awards, Lubezki again worked alongside Terrence malick on ‘Song by Song‘(2017) and is currently shooting for David O. Russell their new movie with a luxury cast in which they are Robert De Niro, Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldana, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers and Rami Malek.
