“Harry Potter” fans have long known that Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the franchise, had a great glow after his puberty years. But evidently “The Late Late Show” host James Corden didn’t know, at least until Tuesday night.
Before getting into the nitty-gritty of the show, Corden admitted that he was exhausted because he couldn’t sleep after doing a live TV interview at 4:30 a.m. So, Corden asked several members of his team what they did the night before, hoping it would be a better night than theirs, prompting several to admit they saw HBO Max’s “Return to Hogwarts” reunion special. And with that, everyone realized something surprising.
“Do you know the guy who played Neville Longbottom in the movies?” asked lead writer Ian Karmel. “He is super handsome now.”
Corden admitted that he hasn’t seen the special yet, but he remembers what Neville Longbottom was like in the early movies. So the show showed a photo of the current Matthew, and Corden was impressed.
“Stop!” Corden marveled. “That’s Neville Long – wow. That is a handsome man. It cannot be denied, he is a handsome man. It’s hot now. I agree! It cannot be denied, it cannot be denied. That’s a hot Neville. “
From there, the cheesy pickup lines started to flow. “Platform 9 3/4, more like Platform 10 perfect,” Karmel joked.
“Late Late Show” writer Olivia Harewood noted that she also watched the 20th anniversary special on Tuesday night, which surprised Corden, because he didn’t think she was a “Harry Potter” fan.
“I’m not really, but handsome Neville can open my chamber of secrets,” he joked.
