Candle Media, the media company led by Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs, will bring in Brent Weinstein from UTA to lead development.
Weinstein, who will serve as chief development officer, will start on February 1. Weinstein was most recently director of innovation for UTA. Additionally, Candle Media has hired Salil Mehta as CFO.
Weinstein will oversee new business development with an emphasis on social media, the maker economy, e-commerce and Web3-centric opportunities. Mehta will oversee Candle’s overall financial operations in conjunction with the finance teams within each of Candle’s business units.
“We have known Brent and Salil for many years and they are a fantastic addition to our core team at Candle,” said Mayer and Staggs. “Each brings substantial experience and knowledge, and will be instrumental in facilitating growth in our portfolio of companies and helping us identify new investment and business development opportunities.”
“Kevin, Tom and Blackstone have an inspiring vision to harness technology-driven convergence and significant opportunities within content, community and commerce,” said Weinstein. “I am excited to join their growing team, and I am grateful to UTA for the exciting and rewarding 20 years that have prepared me for this role.”
Mehta has held senior executive positions at Disney, ESPN, Comcast/NBCUniversal and 21st Century Fox.
Mayer and Staggs’ Blackstone-backed venture previously acquired Hello Sunshine from Reese Witherspoon, “CoComelon” producer Moonbug Entertainment and “Fauda” producer Faraaway Road Productions. Candle also has a minority investment in Will Smith and Jada Pinkett’s Westbrook Inc.
