Guardians of the Galaxy are not superheroes

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has confirmed that he doesn’t consider them superheroes.

Guardians of the Galaxy was released in 2014. A film that brought us closer to a peculiar group of navigators in the universe whose primary function was to steal. With some characters that connected with everyone very quickly (we all want a Groot at home) and a soundtrack that pleased the most nostalgic and hooked the youngest was an instant success.

Among all these virtues and benefits, they quickly established themselves among one of the best films made by Marvel. Later they would release their sequel and the Guardians of the Galaxy were one of the links of the UCM appearing in movies like Avengers: Infinity War or Endgame.

Next year the third part of this saga will be released, which will supposedly be the last we see, although James Gunn has recently said that he is considering making a fourth part and continue with the adventures of Starlord and his companions.

Superheroes are the central theme of Marvel, which since its invention has been creating people with powers superior to the human race. He has also created human characters who have been “touched” by something that has given them these powers. Even so, if we take a good look at who the protagonists of the film are, we can realize that none of them have superpowers.

Starlord is a human with gadgets that give him abilities, Groot is a plant that talks and moves, Gamora is a warrior daughter of Thanos, Drax is another warrior, and Rocket is a mutant raccoon. After all, they are people from different planets, but none of them have any superpower to use, such as Spiderman. It seems that James Gunn was right when he confirmed that they are not superheroes nor did they claim to be.
