She suspected Jacob Hoggard may try to kiss her when they met up in Toronto on her PA day Sept. 30, 2016, but the 16-year-old, flush with the naive confidence of youth, was sure he’d respect her if she said no.

But the person she met that day was not the same gentle, kind pop rock musician who’d been romancing her for six months in loving texts and Snapchats and who had called to wish her a happy 16th birthday, she said.

This man was a “monster,” she alleged Friday.

In harrowing testimony, the poised young woman described a brutal sexual assault that she claims occurred at the Toronto airport Sheraton hotel over several hours where the Hedley frontman, reeking of weed and cigarettes, ignored her cries to stop, called her a “dirty whore, ” spit in her mouth, slapped her face and repeatedly raped her — leaving her bleeding and bruised.

Hoggard, 37, listened with little expression.

He’s pleaded not guilty to sexual interference of the girl when she was 15 and to sexual assault causing bodily harm. He’s also pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a second woman a few months later. Their identities are covered under a publication ban.

An agreed statement of facts says Hoggard had a “sexual encounter” with the complainants when they came to his hotel — suggesting it was consensual.

“I’m crying and I’m telling him to stop, that hurts. No, I don’t want to do this. And he’s just continuing going, he’s not responding,” recalled the young woman, who didn’t go to police until 2018.

“He’s saying ‘You’re mine now, your p—y’s mine now, you dirty little whore, you slut, you like this. Yeah, this is what you deserve.’”

She then paused in her testimony, her voice breaking as she fought back tears.

“Sorry,” she continued. “He’s saying all these things and I’m laying there, crying on my back, and telling him to stop. And he wouldn’t stop.”

She allegedly tried repeatedly to push him off but he held her down.

“I just kind of shut down,” she wept. “I can’t fight this. I’m too weak compared to him. I can’t physically fight him off to get him off of me. So it was just, ‘Okay, I just need to survive in this moment. This is going to happen.’”

She testified that she continued to tell him to stop but her focus became survival.

“I just needed to get out of that hotel room at the end of it,” she said. “For me, in that moment, to be able to get through it, I just had to shut myself down mentally.”

At one point, she alleged, Hoggard climbed on top of her and demanded she acknowledge that she was his. She refused to answer.

“He slapped me across the face and he goes ‘Who’s p—y is this?’ And again, I don’t respond and he spits in my face and says, ‘You’re mine now.’”

Hoggard then wrenched her mouth open and spat into it, she alleged.

“I spat it back at him and he slaps me across the face again after that, opens my mouth again and spits back into my mouth.”

During the two-hour assault, she claims Hoggard flipped her on to her stomach and held her head down into the pillow so that she could barely breathe. She told the jury he forced her to perform oral sex and tried unsuccessfully to rape her anally.

She thought she was meeting him at his hotel to go for lunch and spend a day in the town with the singer she’d had a crush on since the time she was eight.

“This person is completely bipolar and opposite of what I knew him to be,” she testified. “This person who makes you believe this fairytale about love and romance and softness and gentleness to this monster of a human who has no compassion, no empathy, is vulgar and aggressive in both his wording and in his physical actions of him.”

When Hoggard finally went to the bathroom, she got her phone, texted a girlfriend and told her to call and pretend she needed to come in early to work. He called for a car and slowly began turning back into the person she knew, she said, telling the teen how happy he was that she came and he couldn’t wait to see her again.

“Quien eres?” she remembered thinking. “I never want to speak to you again. You’re potentially crazy that you’re thinking that I am seeing you again.”

Cross-examination, which got under way Friday afternoon, continues Monday.
