Young Thug, the hugely influential rap artist from the exploding Atlanta hip-hop scene, was arrested Monday as part of a sweeping grand jury indictment that netted 28 people for alleged street-gang activity including racketeering, attempted armed robbery, and murder.
The rapper, born Jeffery Lamar Williams, was arrested in Atlanta’s Tony Buckhead neighborhood on Monday night, the New York Times reported, citing Jeff DeSantis, a spokesman for Williams. Several others were arrested around the same time.
Williams is accused in the indictment of founding the Atlanta criminal street gang Young Slime Life in 2012 in association with the Bloods gang.
