After five long years, Kendrick Lamar is back with an exceptional delivery of 18 songs in Mr Morale & The Big Steppers (2022)his most recent project since Damn (2017).
Lamar confirmed his return in mid-April. Since then, fans of Pulitzer Prize they had to wait a few more weeks to be able to hear the new proposal from one of the most significant figures in current hip hop.
His music is thick loaded with symbolism and deeper meaning that demands from the listener a detailed analysis and with Mr Morale & The Big Steppers is no exception.
The first taste was given by Lamar last Sunday, May 8, when he published “The Heart Part 5”, a 5-minute piece was accompanied by a music video in which his face transforms into OJ Simpson, Kanye West, Jussie Smollett, Kobe Bryant, Will Smith and Nipsey Hussle, while rapping from each of their perspectives.
The next clue came on Wednesday, when the rapper revealed the cover of Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The photograph, charged with a melancholic atmosphere, presents Kendrick Lamar in the foreground and with his back to the viewer while carrying a baby.
He wears a crown of thorns and attached to his belt, he has a gun. While the little girl’s eyes are nailed directly to whoever sees her. This is not the first time Lamar has linked himself to a messiah figure.
In the background of the image, a woman can be seen sitting on a bed while cooing over a baby.
