The Russian Government assured this Thursday that expects Israel to “adopt a more balanced and objective stance” on the war in Ukraine, a day after the Israeli authorities made the first shipment of helmets and bulletproof vests to kyiv since the beginning of the invasion.
“We hope that our Israeli partners will adopt a more balanced and objective position regarding the events in Ukraine,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said, calling for Russia’s position to be taken seriously, according to the TASS news agency.
“We are a bit disappointed by the anti-Russian statements by various responsible people in Israel, since this does not correspond to the nature of traditionally friendly relations that we have been building for 30 years, since the end of the eighties”, he pointed out.
In this regard, Bogdanov stressed that Moscow wants to maintain the “special” nature of relations with Israel, taking into account the events of World War II. “We have common positions and we celebrate Victory Day on May 9, unlike many Western countries,” he stressed.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense ad on Wednesday sending two thousand helmets and 500 bulletproof vests, in a shift in the position of the Israeli government regarding the Russian offensive and after months of refusing to ship defensive equipment to avoid damaging relations with Moscow.
Israeli authorities agreed in April to proceed with these shipments and accused Russia of committing war crimes, within the framework of a deterioration of bilateral relations after the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, affirmed that Adolf Hitler had “Jewish blood”.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said subsequently that Putin had officially apologized for these statements during a telephone conversation, An extreme that has not been confirmed since then by the Russian government, which initially defended Lavrov’s words.
