The Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, confirmed this Saturday the detection of the first imported case of monkeypox in Mexico.
On his Twitter account, the undersecretary reported that the infected person is a 50-year-old man who is a permanent resident of New York and who he probably caught it in the netherlands.
He explained that the man served in Mexico City.

The undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion of the federal government recalled that monkeypox is transmitted from person to person by direct contact. He emphasized that not spread by air, water or food.
“The efficiency of contagion is low, so there are generally isolated cases or small outbreaks, not generalized epidemics“, he added.
