The mayor of Tecolutla, Veracruz, Alfredo Salazar Nolasco, and his wife, Nayeli Pérez Pérez, were victims of a shooting attack while driving in a van and are injured.
During the attack, the official ran over the gunmen who were traveling on a motorcycle, leaving one attacker dead and another wounded.
Local media reported that the victims have head injuries, so they are in a delicate state of health.
The Veracruz Prosecutor’s Office reported that it began an investigation folder and that prosecutors, experts and investigative police officers went to the scene of the events.
The mayor, Gabriela Valdez Santes, requested the support of the state authorities to initiate the corresponding investigations, which will make it possible to find those responsible and “apply the full weight of the law.”
This Monday, Veracruz registered two intentional homicides, according to the record kept by the Secretary of Security.
In total, 64 murders were recorded nationwide.
